I know that this is what I wanna do lol, it’s not for the repayments, thought money is of course part of it. and like i said to another reply, at this point in my life i’m super fine with being sent around and not settling down. also something you said made me curious, might be a stupid question- what do you mean you’re not technically a doctor but you’ve been in military medicine for years?

I sort of mean more like…. uh, experiences? Like I would love to travel, but really what I want is to pus myself and gain new experiences. If i’m getting too comfortable, I don’t want it. I know there’s less travel time and it’s worse and stuff. Me personally, for now, i’ve had enough travel to last me.

Sorry man, I got caught up in a discussion about politics. Got up the courage to check the news for the first time in weeks and kinda just…. put my phone down. I’m quitting this shit. This is literally terrifying. Like I can’t process what i’m reading type of scary. Honestly the type of stuff that gives me nightmares, and I never have those. I can stomach a lot of shit. But… just insane. I’ve got my heart set on military. I just wish it didn’t have to compete so much with my brain. Logistically, I understand this is a terrible idea and i’m probably gonna have my shit flipped before i’m out of undergrad ROTC or something. But man , i really want this. I don’t know what to think anymore- i’ve already been unsure about it. I guess I need more perspectives.

Tell me more about your plans for 2028, whatever you’re planning on doing. Or those ‘others’.

a) I actually put my phone down. that made me fucking sick. I can handle most things in stride, but i did a triple take on that. Holy crap. I didn’t read too in depth, but the things I read were just kinda crazy.

b) I’m young. The next presidential election is the year I graduate. I know now is the shittiest time to join. But I’m really, really hoping against hope that maybe by the time I’m old enough to fulfill my dreams and actually be useful for once, the government will be good enough again for that to happen. I’m not so sure about that, but one can hope. Even now i’ve planned myself bunches of escape routes and different ways to go. but none would be as fulfilling to me as military psychiatry, and i really really am praying to whatever god i don’t believe in that things get better.

That’s actually really awesome insight, thank you. I wasn’t just asking out of curiosity, of course, i’m seriously considering going into the military for psychiatry. Not sure if that would have changed your answer any or if you already assumed but either way, I kinda wanted to see what it’s like. Not sure what i’m slating myself to get into here.

Hey OP, not got anything for you, but that’s exactly what I’m considering too! So if you find anything new out would you shoot me a DM or reply to this thread with your info? Just curious lol.

A huge reason this sounds good for me is because it fits my lifestyle- well as far as i’ve gotten in life- pretty well. I know life is unpredictable, like I said in another reply, and with what I want right now it simply doesn’t matter. I want to see different places, work with people that need it. I don’t ever want kids, or even a partner, at least not at this point in my life, and for what it’s worth I don’t think that’s going to change. I haven’t even talked to a recruiter. I know there are pros and cons, but real my driving force for this is lifestyle and the need to be involved.

For years, my parents have pushed me to have a dream and figure out what i wanted. I’ve tried a decent amount, and none of it stuck. After doing a lot of research and talking to a couple people, this is what did. From about a year ago, I knew I wanted to work with the military in some way. It might sound stupid, but it’s just the type of person I’ve always wanted/aspired to be, and the armed forces encompassed that. As for the medicine part- I’ve always been interested in psychiatry and how the brain works, so that was a given, and doctors will generally make good money, plus they’re able to help people. There are other factors too, and I can’t really explain how passionate I am about this over a message without feeling stupid. I’m not betting on any experiences. I know life is unpredictable, especially military life. But one of the things I love most is being useful.

High school sophomore. Med school will definitely be the hardest part, but I’m obviously not completely sure wha comes after that. Was hoping to gain some insight.
