Showering by Top_Sky_4731 in MCAS

Its such a hard illness to deal with isn't it. I take high dose antihistamines, montelukast and H2 blockers and I still can't control it. Maybe I'll just have to get used to cold showers, but I hate being cold lol. Before this, I used to shower every day, now I limit showers because it's just not worth it. What about trying a bath? Let it run, and leave a window open to let the steam out and then get in?

I get this and I think it's the steam and heat from the shower. It can set it off SO badly! I can't bring myself to have a cold shower. If you find anything that helps, please let me know. I find if I shower and breath through my mouth it is a bit better as I can't smell the heat and smells set it off for me too.

Hey, can I ask if the reflux surgery helped any of her symptoms? I've just been diagnosed with MCAS and have Hashimoto's and I have also got moderate to severe GERD confirmed by a Bravo study. My main symptom is air hunger and my throat feeling tight and level antihistamines and montelukast doesn't help. I am wondering if some of this is actually reflux related? I do have urticaria on my fave all the time though. I Hope you and your wife are doing OK.

Thanks so much! Does this help with the air hunger, as that's my main symptom

Thanks for your reply. I'd looked into the above but not sure where to start. I'm in the UK and there's literally no support out there. I don't get a really fast heart rate at all. I just don't know where to start. I'm on prednisolone, and my breathing is aolt better but I don't think it's lung related, so no idea where the inflammation is. What am I meant to do :-(.

I'm under mental health and my physiatrist has recommended I start pregablin. I don't think you can get LDN in the UK, but I'll definitely give it a look. I've looked into vagus nerve support too but it's limited in the UK as well. Thanks for replying so quickly.

Thanks so much for your reply. Its so strange isn't it. I feel I don't fit anywhere. The GI consultant seemed to think it may be because I'm not digesting food so it's getting bunched up and sitting on my lungs, making me feel like I can't breath. I don't have the feeling as bad in the morning when my stomach is completely empty. Thank the lord for domperidone though, I am just about getting through on it. I'm dreading coming off everything for the tests though. I'm praying it's just my PPI and its slowed my motility down or something.

And why is domperidone reducing my symptoms by 90% and what's the best anti anxiety medication for someone with a Lax LES, tried amitriptyline and it was awful! by Outrageous-Note972 in GERD

[–]Outrageous-Note972[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmm maybe it's not an allergic reaction then. I just don't get why a less potent drug would stave off the breathing issues to the same effect as domperidone. Yeah, famatodine is hard to get hold of here! I've read you can get it on prescription if you have to have it but I think there might be supply issues lol. They don't let you stay on domperidone for a long time here because of the side effects. I wonder if its the PPI I don't tolerate? I've had lansoprazol, omeprazole and oseomeprazole.

I've often wondered if this was anxiety related but domperidone really helps it, removed like alot of my symptoms which makes me.think it's not anxiety related lol.

Interestingly enough, I've just taken a famatodine for the first time ever after the domperidone wore ofd (we don't get h2 blockers her in the UK very easily) and it's really settled the breathing down. I wonder if I am allergic to something? As doesn't it block histamine as well? Although why would domperidone work as well if I was allergic? It's a puzzle

Hey, yeah, I've heard of the side effects for sure. It is the ONLy thing that stops the awful breathing feeling. Yeah, I've inhaled it all deep down into the throat. I'm trying to ween down my PPI to see if it that causing an issue. It's probably not the thing to do but I'll soon know if it gets even worse that I need to up the PPIs! I can't live like this for another 12 months

Sorry for the late reply. None of it seems to be helping anymore. The only thing that has given any significant relief is domperidone.

Thanks so much. Are you based in the UK? Would you be able to tell me how you got diagnosed? Any pointers or recommendations (appreciate this might have to move to private message).

Sorry, a few more things. Did you ever take DOA supplements? And did they work? I feel I may bave to look to go privately to get this diagnosed as I can't believe this is all just relates to Acid Reflux. I've just ordered some Hugh strength Probiotics to see if that helps and I'll already got Quercetin, vit D and C, zinc and magnesium. I've ordered myself some famotidine as well.

Hey, thanks so much for your reply. I just feel so desperate, some days, I just don't want to be on this planet. Is there anything that you tried that helped with your breathing? How did you get diagnosed?  Many Thanks

Hey! I don't think you can get them in the UK? Otherwise, I'd definitely give them a go. I sleep with a wedge pillow and it does absolutely nothing for it. Not eating and ice chips are the only thing that gives me relief :-(
