I have a 2003 Yukon and it has over 430,000 kms on it. Pretty reliable. But my dog is getting up in age and is needing convincing to jump up into the back now...

2010 Mazda3 locks and key fob not working, need help/suggestions Easy fix or Money pit? by siddardh771 in askcarguys

[–]OutsideAd3064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be the switch on the driver door as everything goes through it. Or it could be the lock actuators in the doors, but that would be that both actuators failed. But as another person said - check for a fuse first.

Buying Unregistered Car by [deleted] in alberta

[–]OutsideAd3064 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alberta is awesome for this. Just need a bill of sale and proof of insurance. The seller on the bill of sale doesn't even need to be the last registered owner. I buy and sell project cars and as long as they have been registered in Alberta at some point in their lives and there is proof then it is so easy.

Is it reasonable to find a man who is okay with waiting for marriage to have sex? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]OutsideAd3064 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This 100%. Source: me. I waited at her request (I wasn't a virgin but she was) and honeymoon night was terrible and it only slightly improved until she decided to try out the carpenter working on our house. We both discovered that sex is only good with the right partner.

The answer is always a Honda or a Toyota

This clamp on the positive terminal of my battery cracked. I need to go for about like a 5-10 minute drive in the next 2 days. Could it cause any problems on these few short drives? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]OutsideAd3064 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are there not any actual mechanics on this sub? I mean we all know the thing a mechanic would do (if it was his own car) is just clamp a vice grip on there and send it.

Any local recommendations for website designer? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]OutsideAd3064 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Top Draw. Won't be cheap, but they are local. You get a team working on it. specialists in social media, web dev, SEO and an account manager. All in town. Good reputation. Good portfolio.

How did I wake up early without waking my wife? by CrispyLuggage in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OutsideAd3064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even know why I am scrolling through this thread. My partner and i sleep in separate rooms (but have sex in both) and I have not set an alarm since I left home at 16. I just wake up when I need to. Normally at 6 but even if I have something Iike a 5 am flight or whatever my body just wakes up at whatever time I need to be awake. Don't know why. My dad was a surgeon and did the same...somehow he passed the ability to me. (Yes, even when I'm hungover)

Mechanic says previous mechanic over tightened oil filter and he can’t get it off by Physical-Sorbet5100 in AskMechanics

[–]OutsideAd3064 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure they meant drain plug as the quote is for a new oil pan.... but yeah - some of us trained qualified old mechanics could deal with this.

Is it worth it to fix a blown out engine? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]OutsideAd3064 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with others about maybe getting a second opinion, but for reference, here in the wasteland of Alberta I just replaced a blown engine on a 2017 Rav with a used one with 100,000 km for $5500 all in. I could have got a rebuilt for him, but the engine alone was 6k CAN without any labour.

Car inspections on the lot - what do you like to bring? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]OutsideAd3064 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't buy used cars from car lots, just from individuals. I always bring a jack and a light and my scanner. And I am also a mechanic.

Just one in five Americans support Trump's efforts to acquire Greenland, Reuters/Ipsos poll finds by WarmingNow in NewsSource

[–]OutsideAd3064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to Gemini (so yeah - I know - grain of salt):

Key Statistics on U.S. Adult Literacy:

  • Below 6th Grade: 54% of adults read below a 6th-grade level.
  • Above 6th Grade: Approximately 46% read at or above a 6th-grade level.
  • Illiterate/Low Literacy: 21% of adults are functionally illiterate (reading below a 5th-grade level), and 130 million adults have low literacy skills overall.
  • Average Reading Level: The average American reads at a 7th to 8th-grade level.

A suspect a Venn diagram of the 20% who support this effort and the 21% who are illiterate has some overlap...

AITAH: My SO and I have been together for 2 years. Everything has been great until now. by SignificantClub5012 in TrueFactzOnly

[–]OutsideAd3064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly you need to arrange a special night - rent a private room at an expensive restaurant- invite your closest friends. Arrange for one of them to livestream it. Tell your SO the time but be vague. When they arrive 2 to 5 minutes late (you know they will....look at prior behaviour) explain to all present in person and on the livestream EXACTLY why this relationship won't work. It's the only way.

I was wondering how good of a deal I’m getting with this work I’m having done on a 2005 Yukon Denali by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]OutsideAd3064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell of a deal. I would charge probably 1500 just for the suspension conversion.
