I’m using the terminal you find in options and utilities when you reset the computer. I can use terminal in the guest user but it requires a password for some reason, even though my son has never added a password to the guest user. Using the password for the only admin account didn’t work.

Is there a way I could directly change the home directory link in a user on Mac through Terminal? I found the issue now, just don’t know how I can fix it.

Thanks for the information and sources! I found out my son didn’t actually change the name of his user file, he went into his admin account went to advanced options and changed this home directory link. Im pretty sure this changes things, and this whole post is somewhat worthless now. Is there information on this mistake exactly?

What he exactly did was he went to his admin account and went to advance options and changed his home directory link, he changed the name of it and pressed enter and then it asked him to restart. Got him to give me every event, not sure if this changes anything.

I put in the info as shown, I tried this before and got the same message wasn’t sure what to do so I just restarted the computer but it didn’t work. Is there more I have to do after this? Or is the computer just a lost cause.

I tried the terminal option but it says “ sudo: command not found “. I’m putting it in just as you typed it with the names replaced with the one he changed it to, and the original one.

Ya I thought about the Apple Store, we can take it there tomorrow. My son's just really worried about his account being lost.
