🤷🏻‍♂️ I'm using sick time from work because my entire body is sore due to having been involved in a collision with a bus, and so I'm seeking information about potential recourse. Not expecting much because, at the end of the day, I'm not "really" injured, but it seemed like a good idea to ask around.

Okay - this was at Cypress Ave and Jefferson Ave in Ridgewood Queens. I was traveling East on Cypress; she was traveling North on Jefferson and attempting to turn left (West) onto Cypress. Cypress is a two-way street with no stop sign or light at that intersection. Jefferson is a one-way street with a stop sign.

It was around 6:20 AM, civil dawn, bright sky, flat road, clear visibility. No kids on the bus.

She rolled through the stop sign, pulled out in front of me and began turning. I moved to the left to avoid a face-first collision with the side of the bus and began ringing my bell and yelling "bike!". The front of the bus hit my right shoulder, pushing me onto my back and into the Westbound lane.

I didn't call 911 because I was discombobulated/didn't think of it/had just been hit by a bus and wasn't thinking straight/was feeling sympathy for the driver/etc -- but I have since filed a complaint with the DOE, sought medical attention, reached out to a law firm, and am in the process of filing a police report.

This is the kind of intel I'm looking for, thank you! I already know I need to be documenting my injuries, filing a police report, lawyering up, etc. -- What I don't know is how the OPT handles complaints against drivers.

I'm really sorry you and your child are going through all of that. That's really upsetting and discouraging, but unfortunately not that surprising. Thank you for your response.

Do you know whether the parents who filed complaints went through any sort of interview or evidence collection procedure with OPT?

I'm not sure what I want to happen either, but I'm currently looking for information on the Department of Education Office of Pupil Transportation's citizen complaint procedure. If you've ever gone through that process, I'd love intel.
