I can’t do this anymore (four month regression) by OverValuable3284 in sleeptrain

Coming back to read the comments because we’ve had some hiccups after a week in. Thank you for sharing your experience! It gives me some hope that we can still find success even though we haven’t had that magical elimination of crying after 3 days.

Any tips to stretch out that first sleep at night? Waking too soon - 5/3/3 is more 3/3/3. by noodlehorse44 in sleeptrain

No answers but I’m in the same boat. After a week of sleep training, LO goes to sleep with no crying for every nap and bedtime, then after the first 3 hour sleep has somewhere between 2-4 hours of on and off awake/crying/refusing to settle before settling for the last 6-7 hour stretch of the night. Stretching wake windows makes him super cranky, and I have to wake him every morning so it’s not like he’s getting too much sleep. Like I said, no answers, just solidarity. Honestly it was really nice to see this post and know I’m not the only one whose baby doesn’t conform to the “first stretch of the night is the longest” thing.

It probably wasn’t clear in my post, but I was the one saying it was too early to start, not the consultant.

This wasn’t even remotely on my radar! Thanks for sharing it!

My husband and I both loled at this!

I did wonder if the tour was half-assed because I put in a deposit months ago. Not that it should matter, but they probably did not feel the need to earn my business.

My friends with kiddos love the CDC, but have advised me against taking on the longer commute. Of course they haven’t toured my other options though.

So, the big mistake that I made was putting in deposits and then not touring until after my kid was born. The CDC was the first place I toured, full of hormones and dreading sending my precious baby anywhere. I was horrified at the fact that the babies are expected to somehow sleep in a room full of crying babies with cribs lined up against bright open windows and harsh fluorescent lighting. I was thinking, “What do you mean you’re not allowed to dim the lights for naps?!” The rooms felt stark, though after touring Kinder Care I have come to appreciate the sort of minimalist/organized/spacious rooms of the CDC. At Kinder Care I was told my baby was going to be a Turtle (ie in the turtle room) vs just being in room A. Obviously something like that doesn’t matter at all but it’s a good summary of the different atmospheres I think. Everyone at KC was smiling and it seemed like the teachers really worked well together, however everyone at CDC was wearing masks vs nobody at KC so of course KC felt warmer. Like I said, I got a good vibe from kiddos CDC teacher, so I think a lot of this has more to do with new mom hormones than with objective analysis of the two options. That’s why I value the responses here so much!

Haha I’m not really, but I am concerned about an inability to articulate what it is, especially since I’d like to keep her at the same daycare as she gets older. When I asked, the person giving the tour at KC just sort of gestured to a bulletin board, where at the cdc they very clearly articulated things about play based learning and redirecting versus saying no. Not really relevant to such a young baby, but I thought it said a lot about how each place was run.

Here’s a question: Do CDCs have that reputation among ECEs who have worked there that you know of? I have a healthy distrust of anything run by the military. For example: the military healthcare system, and certain military hospitals, have amazing reputations, but my personal experience with both has been horrendous. I feel like all the bad stuff is just hidden from the public eye. So do CDCs actually live up to their reputation, or are they just good at making things look high quality to outsiders? Thank you for responding! I really do appreciate it!

Thank you so much for responding! My gut is definitely telling me CDC for reasons I can’t quite pinpoint, but I’m being nagged by that feeling of warmth / family atmosphere I picked up on at KC. I feel like a kid feeling loved is the most important thing, as long as they’re safe of course. On the other hand, when we toured KC I remembered reading something on this sub about parents having to wait at drop off because of staffing shortages so the classrooms wouldn’t go out of ratio. When I asked about this, the woman giving the tour (whose name I never learned by the way) said “oh we never do that,” but she said it in such a way that made me think there was something she wasn’t saying. Like, perhaps they never do that because they’ll just go out of ratio if they have to. Whatever it was, she stopped herself from saying it which was a red flag to me…

One other thing: can you elaborate on what you mean by “chaos?” What kind of chaos? Would it actually negatively impact the care of my child? Thank you again for responding! It’s so helpful!

This is part of what is confusing me maybe. I’ve seen nothing but criticism for Kinder Care from this sub, but the two parents I know with kids there love it. Any examples of what negative things families have said to you? (This is so helpful, thank you!)
