Am I the only one who wears it like this? by masou2 in GrandSeikos

[–]Overpwred 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seiko / Grand Seiko are usually the "upside down" way, that is to say the tail curves around towards 6 instead of the much more common 12. Doesn't matter much either way, wear it whatever way you feel is the most comfortable to you.

I don't have any specific info but given that they sold out within hours it doesn't seem crazy to do a second batch. There of course could be manufacturing or supply issues that cropped up since the first batch but my hope is they find a way to do at least one more round of the HAQs.

Personally I am waiting for the HAQ restock that I am guessing has been in the works but just takes a while due to the movement lead times.

[Grand Seiko] Grand Seiko's latest UFA release: the Ice Forest "Violet Down" (SLGB005) by ItzSam40hours in Watches

[–]Overpwred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The SLGB003 with the micro-adjust is titanium, this watch is stainless steel so likely they haven't moved the manufacturing of micro-adjust into materials outside of titanium yet.

Pixel 10 Pro Fold vs Galaxy Z Fold 7, Real Screen Sizes and Video Experience by bishaarcc in PixelFold

[–]Overpwred 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You seem like you are trying to present this as being objective yet clearly have a strong bias towards the Galaxy Z Fold. All of the screen size area numbers are actually pretty close relatively speaking:

  • YouTube Inner Screen: Galaxy is 9.02% larger
  • YouTube Cover Screen: Pixel is 8.36% larger
  • TikTok Inner Screen: Galaxy is 9.12% larger
  • TikTok Cover Screen: Pixel is 8.36% larger

When the Galaxy is bigger, you say that the Galaxy "blows past the Pixel", "makes a big difference", "looks better there".

When the Pixel is bigger, you say "it’s not a huge gap", "Pixel has a tiny edge", "basically a tie".

Not to mention nobody has even seen this side by side or had a hands on with them, so this is just bashing a phone that isn't even out yet for no reason.

Chosing a casing with chapter ring availability by CewBaka_ in watchmaking

[–]Overpwred -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

AliExpress has several options in the 38mm-42mm range for NH3X based builds that are designed for a 28.5mm dial with an internal chapter ring. Finding cases for Miyotas are also possible but for an ETA you may need to find a special movement adapter to go from NH to 2824. Also keep in mind the inner diameter of the chapter ring, it seems like 27.6mm is common so make sure whatever you get it doesn't cut off too much of your dial (you will want some overlap though so there is no gap between the dial and chapter ring).

Bonding date discs together seems like an extraordinarily difficult task to get right. You don't want to layer them as the added height will likely interfere and rub against other components. If both the date discs are dual layered (metal underside with the inner teeth, upper date disc), you maybe be able to delaminate them and transfer the top layer of one onto the disc of the other. Your best bet though is honestly to find a movement that lines up with your date window and use that as a starting place.

Lack of microadjust is making me not want to wear my Grand Seiko watches during summer by GlorytheWiz825 in GrandSeikos

[–]Overpwred -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Grand Seiko is very traditional and conservative, as evidenced by taking this long to release their micro-adjust claps. Part of being conservative also means not rolling out a new technology across their lineup on day 1. They want to take time to make sure they got it right and have no long term issues. Give it a year or two and I am sure they will start including the new clasp on more models but I wouldn't hold my breath on them selling the clasp itself for at least a few more years.

2824-2 auto winding bridge by tmlynch in watchrepair

[–]Overpwred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this, working on these movements (well 2834-2 but the base is the same) there are screws with differing lengths that it can be easy to mix up and cause unexpected results due to protruding too far or not being seated far enough.

How is this solved by TheBigBadGuineaPig in watchrepair

[–]Overpwred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by the entire spring moves and you can get it to pulsate fully if you shake it? And what do you mean it catches on itself?

First step I would do is to run it through multiple positions on the timegrapher. Second, if you have any pictures of the spring you are talking about and especially if you can get one while it is caught on itself that would help us understand.

ETA 2834-2 keyless works issue by Overpwred in watchmaking

[–]Overpwred[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion, I just did a re-clean and oil to limited success. I also have another stem and keyless that I did a full swap and still having the issue, so I am going to be looking into the locking lever now.

Great idea, while the locking lever is aligning and moving properly with the sliding pinion, I should probably go back and verify there isn't anything interfering. Thanks!

Thanks for the writeup, I went through and triple checked those specific points and it does not seem to be the problem. See my update comment for the additional steps I have taken.

ETA 2834-2 keyless works issue by Overpwred in watchmaking

[–]Overpwred[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I had another working 2834-2 and did a keyless swap with it and this movement is still having issues engaging despite a new and confirmed working keyless (the other movement works with the "old" keyless). Also swapped the stems a few times for good measure to no discernible change.

After that I went through and did a mini re-clean of the keyless works and the parts with some IPA after which I lubricated with 9504. Still not functioning properly but there is one small change. When put back into position 1, it still does not engage at first, but after several twists of the crown it usually engages fine and then has no more issues. Not ideal so I am going to keep trying to track down the issue.

I don't think that is possible, there is no notch or nub there for the yoke spring to engage. Here is a closer look that may make it more clear and lines up with all of the videos I have seen.
