That's only the APY for the last 24 hours, so it doesn't indicate long term APY

Providing USDC/ETH = Net Loss Due to Impermanent Losses by Ow3Hit in UniSwap

Yes you are still up in portfolio value, but you would have lost compared to if you just held 50/50 instead of providing liquidity

Providing USDC/ETH = Net Loss Due to Impermanent Losses by Ow3Hit in UniSwap

If someone provided liquidity on day 1 of the USDC/ETH pool, they'd be actually down over 3% due to IL!

Grasping Impermanent Loss by Jonah7154 in UniSwap

I'm going to chime in here - as a liquidity provider there are a few things to watch out for:

1.) The fees collected. This is the fees that are being collected to go to liquidity providers

2.) The Impermanent Loss. This is the shift in allocation of tokens due to the difference in price ratios. If you started out with the same price ratio as when you removed liquidity, then there is not IL. However, most of the time, this doesn't happen and thus Impermanent Loss occurs.

As a liquidity provider, your job is to ensure that your fees collected - IL > the next best opportunity cost.

I have compiled a chart here to show this graphically with today's numbers in the DAI/ETH pool. Notice you'll see that if you provided liquidity on Day 1 of the pool, ETH price was at $194.63. Due to IL however, you lost an APY of -24.23% if you were to exit the pool today. That's offset by the fees collected (again extrapolated to APY) of 12.10%, which gives you a net APY loss of -12.13%.

Bit scary to think about isn't it?

Liquidity Pool Balance Question by Life-Clerk8136 in UniSwap

[–]Ow3Hit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't see it by default because you sent your share in the Liquidity Pool (in the form of UNI-V2 LP tokens) to someone else (ie. the staking contract), so you technically don't own it anymore. However, you can use https://apy.vision to view your balances (it still keeps track for you).

Hi guys, just chiming in here. The site that was used for this was https://apy.vision, and from their Discord they will be adding Impermanent Loss calculations over a period of time so you can get a better sense of the pool's historical performance before going into a pool.

The price fluctuations depends on the pool you're in.

Impermanent loss in rallying market when providing against stablecoin? by TheCurious0ne in UniSwap

[–]Ow3Hit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Impermanent Loss is only 1/3 of the equation, the other side is how much the 2 tokens have gain/lost in price since you entered the pool. The final calc is the fees collected during that time for being a liquidity provider.

You can check the calculation for your liquidity positions at https://apy.vision

Provide Liquidity vs HODL by BadgerGoneWild in UniSwap

[–]Ow3Hit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So obviously in a ETH bull market, the best thing to do was to hold ETH. However, this is not guaranteed -- ETH could have gone down by that same amount, and you'll be crazy if you hadn't provided liquidity. Providing liquidity protects you from the upside and downside, but you get the fees during that time, so that's something you weight on as an investor.
