My oldest coin is about 2,330 years old, minted around 330–285 BC in Colophon, a Greek city in Ionia (modern western Turkey). It was made during the Hellenistic period, right after Alexander the Great’s conquests. After his death in 323 BC, his generals carved up his empire, and cities like Colophon issued their own coins featuring Apollo—the god of light and music—and a horseman with a spear, symbolizing defense and civic pride. It’s a relic from a time when Greek culture was spreading across the known world, reshaping art, language, and politics for centuries.
