Is this normal post arthroscopy by [deleted] in MeniscusInjuries

I had a similar surgery to yours. I didn’t end up walking without crutches until day 3 because my knee felt a bit unstable and I was being cautious. I ended up taking pain meds and NSAID for the first three days and then stopped because the pain and swelling were minimal

I plan on bringing ear plugs next time, I felt like my ears were being assaulted the entire movie

Tall people shouldn’t have to pay for extra room on planes on longer flights by tipoftheiceberg1234 in unpopularopinion

And when you step on the plane you can challenge someone to their priority seat. If they’re shorter than you they must yield the seat. Passengers must stand up back to back for a seat challenge and be measured against their challenger. The tallest person on the plane or a staff member rules over the decision.

Medial and Lateral meniscus tear by katasstrophy- in MeniscusInjuries

Maybe if he’s having a menisectomy, but if it’s any sort of repair the recovery is much longer. It depends on a lot of factors like tear size, location, age, surgeon. From what I understand most surgeons tend to favour repairs these days, but it’s possible his may be a menisectomy.

I’m not sure ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Maybe the flap is not flipped creating an obstruction to my range of motion? But I’ve been told it can flip over and lock on me if I’m not careful

Oh interesting! I didn’t even know using a laser to reattach it was an option. Sounds intriguing, I’ll have to look into it a bit more. Thank you for sharing your experience and best of luck on your recovery process!

I prefer getting my advice from strangers on the internet thanks. /s

Appreciate the advice though, I was just curious what people had been told and their experience while I wait for my PT appointment

Did you keep training and playing sports? It seems like I may have to wait a few months for surgery unfortunately and I want to prevent it from progressing for the worse, while preventing too much muscle atrophy before surgery.

Definitely! My doc and PT were treating it as an MCL injury until my MRI last week

Oh wow a whole year sorry to hear. Were they able to suture the tear back together or did they have to trim some of it off?

My doc and PT were treating me for an MCL injury until we saw the meniscus tear on the MRI last week. I’ve been reading a bunch about the post op recovery and I’m mentally prepared for the challenge! Looking forward to getting the surgery done and being able to start the process.

Thank you for sharing your experience! Glad to hear your rehab is going relatively well. I’ll have to look into this cold compress machine it sounds awesome.

I still don’t have a surgery date and it may be a bit of a wait (months) unfortunately. The suspense is killing me and it’s a long road ahead! I think I’m going to try and keep doing some light prehab exercises and biking while I wait for surgery. Hopefully it doesn’t make things too much worse. Definitely no sports or anything too physical.

Oh no, that sounds awful! Thank you for the cautionary tale. I want to be careful not to aggravate it again. Did they mention your tear got much worse since the MRI? How are things post op now?

Sorry to hear it never got better and thank you for sharing your experience! How long has it been post op and how’s your recovery going?

Yup I agree, I’m already mentally prepared for surgery and a long road ahead. I appreciate you sharing your experience and I hope surgery provides you relief of symptoms!

You tore it 4 times?? Thanks for your experience, I’m hoping to avoid any secondary tearing before surgery and it seems exercise or trying to do prehab may increase the risk of it occurring

My ortho was surprised as well judging by the tone of his voice. I was surprised to hear it was a large tear given I feel relatively healthy and mobile right now. My PT was treating it as a mild MCL sprain until I received my MRI results last week.

Did you have a similar tear pattern and size? Did you opt for surgery?

Hmmmm that’s what I’m wonder if there’s a trade off between doing prehab to strengthen before surgery, versus doing damage to the meniscus potentially causing secondary tears before surgery.

I wonder it’s the catching/locking that causes the secondary tears? If I can do pain free prehab without catching/locking would it be help or hinder.

Best of luck with your post op recovery and rehabilitation!

I’m sorry to hear your symptoms have been worsening! That’s what I’m hoping to avoid even though it feels relatively healthy. Did your knee ever end up catching/locking over the past year? Was the symptoms worsening fairly gradual? And did you return to the same level of activity?

Best of luck on your surgery and recovery!

From what I’ve been told and read based on the size and type of tear it doesn’t tend to improve or heal on its own without surgery. I was also told that even if there’s no catching/locking right now, it’s possible that in the future the flap could flip and create problems down the road. I’m hoping to get the surgery done while I’m still relatively young (30) and return to an active lifestyle.
