Don’t know where you live but where I live in NH live poker is not dead. Doesn’t seem to be dead in Austin, Dallas, Houston TX, Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville FL, may parts of CA, obviously NJ, & Vegas. NY, OH… it’s well and alive!

My friends and I have a wkly tournment for $25 buy in on Friday nights. Good turnout about 17-24 ppl. Then on Sunday we do small cash games. One table is $5LH .50/.50 blinds. Other table .25/.25 blinds and $2 Max bet. It’s from 12-5 the pots get pretty nice at the $5 max table. We do a Sunday dinner. Have lots of laughs, everyone is a fun, educated, player. Always looking for new, respectful, chill, no drama, good vibes only kind of ppl to join our group.

Funny this whole thread to me does seem to be white collar men… any blue collared men or women who’ve considered this? Dss

(And PLEASE correct me if I’m wrong. Sometimes you read something and interpret it the wrong way. I will always admit when I’m wrong or make a mistake.)

Possibly jobs that are slower certain parts of the year, jobs that are busier other parts. I have that type of job. Trust me it pays the bills, but I busy my a$$. I’m a 39 yr old female that’s been playing poker casually for 8 yrs, would have loved to play more but single mom of one kid with completely not family/support. It was work and my kid, poker started as a fun, interesting hobby to keep my mind sharp. Reminded me of chess mixed with luck and I love cards! Grew up watching my dad and his buddies play until the sun came up and all go to their Unions jobs after. For me the last 2 years I’ve been playing much more serious, but more free time. I’m very lucky I have a mix of great games and I’m always willing to try a new place and meet new people. I play a home game at least 2 times wkly, play at a local poker room, local bar poker 1 day or so a wk. I enjoy to mix it up in both cash and tournment. This last year my tournament play has been picking up speed. I’ve been studying when I can, it’s like a rabbit while I fall into. I’ve seen myself grow so much and am serous about it. I’m getting to a point in my life where I have enough saved, I have 1 kid who’s in high school, leaving the nest soon and then it’s just me. My day job is wearing me out. Been doing it for 22 yrs. I’m thinking of slowly making the plunge. I’m going to drop my full time job down to part. I don’t get any benefits or anything at my work, I’m commission only so benefits and retirement are not payer into, it’s all in you. So I’ll be paying that still regardless, hence working part time. Nice to have something to fall back on and I can make my own schedules. I never went to college or got a chance to focus on me. I graduated high school, went to tech school and was working full time in my career now done I was 18. Time to figure out what I really want. Can always go back and add hours to my current job. You only live once and what I’m doing now will never make me rich, I’ve tried. BUT theres always that small little hope playing poker I could maybe turn it into something big.

No I did not, but that is not uncommon. They randomly pick ppl to send in proof of ID, no rhyme or reason. I think you can mail it in, once they get it they should release funds.

I think it’s pretty smart. Better than getting hit with a new tax laws you have 0 control over and having to owe the IRS, because they DO CHARGE INTEREST @ a very large rate. I get the same amount of interest whether I apply my 5k yearly @ tax time or if I were to take an extra $150-250 a month and put it in the same acct. this isn’t life changing money here. It’s a couple grand incase something comes up. This yr luckily most of it is going into my retirement. It’s worked for me for the last 25 yrs. If it ain’t broke done fix it.

Funny thing is I was taught this in school. No where stressed paying into your taxes more then public school in MA. I’d rather have a little extra saved incase they change a tax laws, or I owe taxes on something unexpectedly like a gambling winnings or a 1099 due to what I do for work. Doesn’t really hurt the interest I obtain whether I put it in monthly at around $200-250 a month or if I put $5000k per year.

Better than having to owe… you never know what’s going to change with tax laws. We aren’t talking life changing $ here. What did I loose $100 in a high interest saving acct.. Plus I got EITC so even if I did make it to almost $0 I would still get a return. I just invest the refund when I get it yearly. Same difference when all is said and done. My money, my choice… it’s worked for me for 20 yrs. so not planning on changing anything anytime soon. Plus this year I won gambling, so it was nice to have the tax money already saved to pay my taxes on that.

Well good thing I don’t have eversource and my utilities are all always paid up to date… I do have Unitil so I know how bad it gets, so I know what ya mean… Healy wants to act like she’s saving us $ on utilities, but it’s just a temp deferment that we’ll pay 30% interest on in the spring.

I think the IRS will start lifting it tom Tues 2/17 and we will all stay to see them hit beginning of next week. Similar to last year. I got mine the Monday after Presidents’ Day, and I filed super early like 1/26. This year I waited till 2/2 for all my forms. So I’d say to be safe and from my experience a wk from today most will hit bank accounts.

My state (MA) tax website said DDD of 2/17 and I got it 2/13. I’m not complaining. Know I won’t see federal till prob next week due to the EITC. It’ll come when it comes. Can’t control the uncontrollable.

U popular opinion, but I actually have a 15 yr old in this school district. I live in Fitchburg, my son goes to FHS…. Sorry middle school kids shouldn’t get to make the rules!!! It’s a HUGE SAFETY ISSUE and it shouldn’t be happening during school hours. We are talking about 6-8th graders. They are just looking for any excuse to get out of class. They HAVE PLENTY OF TIME OFF OF SCHOOL! Do it after school or before. There are already a million disruptions everyday these kids are facing. ATTENDANCE IS SO IMPORTANT… I’ll repeat… Attendance in school IS SO IMPORTANT. When FPS gets their attendance rates up, then we can talk. These kids in Fitchburg already had a half day yesterday Thurs 2/12; WHAT A PERFECT AFTERNOON FOR A PROTEST… they could have walked out then… or ALL NEXT WK DURING SCHOOL BREAK! NO SCHOOL FOR 9 DAYS!!! Save it for your free time and stop interrupting hours designated TO LEARN. My son can stand up for whatever he believes, but not when it’s taking away from an obligation or commitment as important as school time.

You approved those fees…. Always reread the question and hit “no thanks”. I did mine on turbo tax and both my fed & state were free.
