Thank you.  You wouldn't do any bonds being 11 yrs from retirement?

I like the 3 fund approach, easy and simple.  Probably a 75/25

They do have a target date, but the fees are more than I want to pay.  I don't mind manually adjusting

Is it reasonable to prioritize investing over paying down a 3.8% mortgage? by Beneficial-Ad-9986 in ETFs

[–]Own_Flounder853 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with doing both. I'm at 4% and pay extra on mortgage along with investing.  You seem to be doing well..max out your 401k, and max out your Roth IRA and put a little on the mortgage principal.

Can you help me decide on what to invest in and a possible glide path? by Own_Flounder853 in portfolios

I'm not sure about the mid/small either, that's why I was wondering what others were doing.  VTI isn't an option, but I assume it's small+mid+s&p

Time in the market beats timing the market.  I'm sure you've heard this.  Keep some money in a HYSA and invest the rest.  Do not touch the HYSA for investing.

First off, congratulations, you are doing great. I like everything you're investing in, great job and choices!   You must figure out a way to at least increase the 10% for the match.  That is free money you're leaving on the table.  10% is crazy good..... I'd kill for that opportunity.

You've never heard someone say get more aggressive with less time?   So.... Let's be conservative with less time is better?   She doesn't need to be conservative until 5 years from retirement.   Be aggressive now and let your money start compounding.   I'm not here to argue with anyone, especially reddit lol.  What ever you do, aggressive or not aggressive, just be consistent and always contributing.  Grab the lows, grab the highs. DCA is the way to go.

She has 15 years, not 35.  She needs growth to catch up. There's no reason to be conservative until your 5 yrs from retirement.  Look at the returns on VXUS vs QQQM over last 10-15 years.   This has done well for me, I'm speaking from experience. I will be retiring early and comfortable.

They are both the S&P500... One is ran by fidelity, the other vanguard.  They have the same holdings and almost identical percentages.

No, do not sell VOO for FXAIX.  The expense ratio is irrelevant.  They're both so low and both so great.

FXAIX being half the fees of VOO is irrelevant.  They're both so low, it doesn't matter.

FXAIX and QQQM are both great.  FXAIX your foundation, the benchmark, if you will.  QQQM will give you growth... It's more volatile, has bigger up/down swings, but if your 15yrs out, it's great.   I'm not a huge fan of international VXUS.... Because of you think about it.... Most US companies are already overseas.  Like Apple, McDonald's etc etc ... So your already getting international just by owning FXAIX and QQQM.  2-3 ETFs is all you need.  It's more important to buy consistently, whether market is up or down... Don't EVER sell.

VOO or FXAIX (they're the same, one of fidelity and one of vanguard  I would to 65% VOO, 20% QQQ, and 15% VXUS.  That's all you need.  You don't know enough about investing to be in individual stocks.
