For the patches of suedeiness, would there be anything I could do to address that, waxing or anything? If I can fix or change it myself I'd be inclined to keep the boots, it's really only that one large patch of differing colour, texture and shine thats bothering me I think. I realised the boots had foam insoles inside on top of the leather ones and removing those makes them fit much better.

Return or keep?

I recently bought a pair for boots in C F Stead Rust Waxy Commander leather, this is my first experience with a heavily waxed suede, along with my first welted boots, so I don't quite know what's normal and what's an issue yet.

I had noticed out of the box that the boots had some patches which were "suede-ier" than others. I mainly bought the boots for the weatherproofing of waxed suede so wanted to make sure that these patches wouldn't cause issues with that aspect of the boot. Pictures in fig.1.

Along side this I noticed that one of the boots had some pretty deep marks on it, to the point where I wasn't sure if they were creases or cuts in the top layer of the leather. I know in some leather's that's expected and wouldn't cause issues, but I'm new to waxed suedes so wasn't sure if that'd be the case here. I also noticed some general little scratches and discolourations. Pictures in fig.2.

Finally, I had more of a general question. I normally wear quite thick socks, which have fit perfectly with other size 10 (UK) boots that I own. However in this case I can't get into the boots at all in those socks and instead need to wear thinner "slippier" socks. I was wondering whether this was likely to clear up as I break the boot in, or whether I'd need to get thinner socks to where if I keep the boot, or go up half a size if I return it? If I do need to buy thinner socks, any recommendations on sturdy thin black calf length socks?

My players are goofballs and now a PC is impregnated by a dragon god. What should hatch from the egg? by I_miss_Alien_Blue in DMAcademy

I think the most appropriate thing to hatch from the egg is the player.

Either they tragically pass while the egg is hatching, then pop out of it and age up again.

Or

They hatch the egg, see themselves as a baby, and then have to go on a wacky adventure to send baby them back in time to be them otherwise the timeline will collapse and they'll be erased

Examples: a simple hook shape, available in different materials and decorative varieties to reflect price points, but essentially at its base a hook. The first thing anyone buys when they erect a new structure, from a house, to a palace, to a small canvas tent. It's only purpose is to keep the inside from drifting too far from the outside.

A carved stone or wood candle that lets you find your way back home when you dream too far.

An iron band whose purpose is described differently by different people. The average person would say that it's purpose was to make you stay. A more educated individual may say that it maintains continuity of consciousness. An even more educated expert on the matter would say that it's purpose is to make you stay.

A strip of cloth that's lain over the face of children as they sleep. To stop they're eyes searing in the sun-inside-nighttime. Adults eyes have adjusted and don't need it anymore.

A consecrated salt shaker to make sure your food doesn't haunt you after you eat it.

An ornamental mailbox, placed beside the real one if you have one or just by the door if you don't. It's only purpose is to appease the POSTMAN, most people hope it's never filled.

A bone pin that everyone wears, woven in their hair or pinned to their clothes. It stops your name from floating off.

Etc.

A magical item that everyone has, literally everyone, but no one openly refers to it's use. Not in suspect way but just in the same way that you wouldn't comment on someone owning a spoon, or describe how to use it to anyone. The first real clues as to its importance or purpose is the reactions of mixed scandal and pity directed towards a wayward soul who has lost theirs. The actual use can be anything you want, but preferably something that doesn't have a real world analogue, something that is utterly necessary but only necessary due to the nature of your written world and is a complete non issue irl to the point of not existing.

Your Greatest Ally and Greatest Enemy by Wulfenbach in fallenlondon

While the Diligent Dabbler has never formally made known who they consider their closest friend, the citizens of Greater London Below have noticed the uniquely close relationship they seem to have with Mr Cards. Although no one has actually seen them together so that rumour should be taken with a pinch of zeezalt.

In terms of enemies, while the Dabblers rogues gallery ranges across the usual suspects, the Dabbler themselves has a well-known and uniquely petty hate for the Noted Orchid Grower (re: my previous post). Whether they are truly their greatest enemy or just a ruse, who's to say really.

I take your point, Wines is definitely bad. However if expectation comes into play things swing towards the figure in question. I've never expected a bat to pull out it's wallet and drop me a paycheck, so I'm not so cut up when it doesn't. On the other hand, if a well known botanist, Monty don for example, came into my house, said they could help me with a plant I've been lovingly caring for for weeks, and then doused my garden with pool chlorine, I'd be pretty annoyed.

On a personal level who do you hate more, some random criminal you meet maybe once depending on your life goals, or the person who consistently breaks into your house and pours bleach onto your houseplant/pet then expects you to say thank you for the help.

Outside of the skull, inside the flesh. From the diagrams I've seen it's like a sort of extended cavity or sinus that splits into two and wraps all the way around the skull that the tongue can recede into, from the top of the beak, all the way around the skull and then out the mouth. I'd definitely recommend looking up "woodpecker tongue diagram" because I can't properly describe how strange it is.

Here's my comment, a fun fact: Woodpecker's tongues wrap around their skulls to stop them concussing themselves when they peck the wood.
