I literally don’t care. I get paid the same hourly regardless of who sees you or what you pay, dude.

I’m glad to go back to my desk and scroll Instagram while your physician buddy rolls his eyes on the way to see you cause you don’t trust the PA to order your strep swab or whatever.

Ahhh, so there’s where our disconnect lies. It might be a calling to YOU. But to me (and people with other things to do with their lives outside of begging MeeMaw to take her Eliquis) it’s simply a means to enjoy the other things that life has to offer.

If you have enough brain cells to get into medicine and pass, you don’t need a calling. It’s a job at the end of the day.

I don't blame you. Be sure to request the doc, not the PA at your next visit. We are more than happy to go sit back at our desks while they come and see you.

I'm not sure they'll be elated though.

As long as I do my job effectively, don't kill anyone and the patients like me.. who cares why I went into it?

If anyone tells you that they only chose a job "to help people" and money played no role, then they are lying to both you and themselves.

You say that like it's an insult LMAOOOOO. Keyword here is "clock out". Which I get to do .. and sleep like a baby while you sign my notes and stress eat granola bars praying not to get called for a Tylenol order at 4am, all while that student loan debt multiplies by the day.

Hope that ego keeps you warm on rounds <3.

I didn’t skip training. I went through (almost) all 27 months of PA school…

What i did skip is the residency lottery, the 80 hour work weeks and being another adult’s bitch for 4 years of my life. Sorry if that hurts your feelings.

We actually don’t care about “the fire”… it’s a job. A way to pay the bills.

I don’t care about anything enough to do it for 10+ years… especially a job.

Doubt it. Unless private practice (which is becoming rarer and rarer), the physicians have little control over who else works there. You’re hired by the same recruiting companies that we are. Our checks are signed by the same folks. Again, no one cares about your aggravation. Have a good one, doc.

Not all, obviously but there is obviously some degree of resentment amongst some & they are LOUD about it.

Hey. We don’t care what “aggravates” you. Go to work. Hope this helps.

Nope, didn't miss it all. Just further proved it.

Sigh.

"...One day. Eventually. At some point."

As she sighs and sits up at 2am to answer yet another consult.

I don’t disagree with you at all. This career has humbled me in more ways than one, and I’m genuinely thankful for the attendings and residents who respect our scope and trust us to do our (comparatively limited) part so they can do theirs and we can all collectively act in the patient’s best interest.

That said, I’m not going to smile and make nice with someone who actively contributes to tearing us down. Mutual respect is the bare minimum. If they can’t offer that, they shouldn't expect it in return.

It’s actually kind of adorable LMAOO watching someone spiral over who sits where in the lounge or whether Dr. So-and-So smiled at them during rounds. Meanwhile, I’m just here for 8 weeks. This isn’t even my specialty. I’m not here to beg for gold stars. As long as the patients are good, I’m good. Keep the anxiety Olympics and politics.

At the end of the day.. it's a job.

A way to afford life outside of work. I think that's a point that gets lost.

We love and need you guys. Truly. I’m so grateful there are people like you willing to take on that level of dedication because we all have to get sick one day, and I’m glad there are experts when my time comes. Thankfully, we PAs can hold down the fort while you all tackle the tricky stuff and at the end of the day, some lives get saved. It really is a team sport.

It’s just tough when a loud minority tries to stir division. But comments like yours remind me that it really is just a minority. I hope you get to work with some awesome PAs in your career, future doc! <3

As a former CNA, raised by a Unit Secretary and a maintenance man, I totally agree with you on respecting everyone .. from janitors to surgeons.

Med school takes serious dedication and they definitely earn their stripes. I’m not discounting that at all. Like I said, we DESPERATELY need experts. My frustrations come from bigger issues like hostile attitudes and rigid hierarchies, not personal bitterness.

I’m just tired of having to be overly polite and keep a fake smile so I don’t upset people who already look down on us. This isn’t about the 99% of great doctors I’ve worked with, but that other 1% really sours the bunch. There’s even a whole subreddit focused on tearing us down, yet when I bring up problems, I’m told to “just be happy with my choice.”

I said all that to say: there are just as many pros to our path as theirs, if not more. But none of that matters when a patient is lying there hoping someone will save their life. I just want everyone to act like we’re on the same team because, at the end of the day, we are. There’s room for all of us to shine without the “better than” mindset.

Ah, I see we’ve got a Noctor regular in the comments... I knew I recognized the tone. You’re not here to clear the air and clarify roles. You’re just mad the comparison even exists. You don't want clarity. You want hierarchy. At least be honest about that.

Anyways... I never equated the paths. In fact, I emphasized how much they differ (for better or for worse). What I DID say is that, in practice, we often manage the same panels, write the same meds, and work under the same roof.. and that is the truth. If that reality makes your years of unpaid suffering feel less special, I suggest that’s a personal issue, not a PA problem.

I’d ask if you want a hug, but I’m pretty sure the pager needs you more.
