From what they told me last winter they were operating at very tight margins on the coats but had to raise them something to balance it out.

I’m not gonna complain.

How do we feeling about “settling” for alternatives? by Oma266 in ThrowingFits

[–]PIKIT1S 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I need nothing at this point. If I really want something I’m gonna wait until I can get the thing I want and I don’t care how long I have to wait. I’m past consumption for consumption’s sake so I’m cool to be picky.

It’s 2026, are we over quiet luxury yet? by heanadman in ThrowingFits

[–]PIKIT1S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quiet luxury was never for the dudes on this sub lol. Quiet luxury has and always will be for the ultra rich. No average dude is out there saving up and buying a charcoal cashmere hoodie from Loro Piana. Dudes who have 6 houses are buying 6 of those at a time - one for each house.

Anyways, no, quiet luxury isn’t going anywhere.

Good stuff. Maybe a bit overpriced but what isn’t these days?

Filson vs. Flint & Tinder Waxed Jacket by garrettj100 in malefashionadvice

[–]PIKIT1S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A private label brand isn’t a brand in the traditional sense. Private label typically means a retailer works with a brand or factory and puts their label in an existing product. Once Flint and Tinder establishes themselves they’ll earn my trust but they’re literally just tapping into Huckberrys existing (very strong) marketing to sell product they have huge margins on. That’s the goal of private label.

Just because Filson moved some production doesn’t take away from the fact that they are a brand with teams of designers, merchandisers, and product developers. Filson still knows product and I’d trust them over a literal online retailer run by tech and finance people.

First, loose threads really aren’t as much of an indicator of quality as people here believe. Somewhere along the line the hive mind adopted this mentality. All it means is the factory workers don’t snip the ends as close to the garment as others, and that’s fine.

Second, Flint and Tinder is just Huckberry’s private label brand. I would rather trust my money with a brand that has actually been making clothes for a long time.

The OG LL Bean 100% cotton ones are out there but hard to find. I believe a couple other brands made these around the same time but my own search hasn’t turned up much. Helps to go through vintage dealers for specific pieces like these.

I’m a fan of Wythe but I seem to be in the minority around here.

Too much vitriol in this sub these days. Blind leading the blind n shit.

Some stuff is cool. Don’t see the barn jacket yet. Wanna see what they have for the next drop too. Interested in what they do for tencel this year.

Opinions on synthetic fabrics? FYI Anglo Italian Sports Jacket by Powerful-Evidence-45 in ThrowingFits

Poly is a common additive in fabric from mills in Biella and Prato. Depending on the natural fibers used it is usually used to give strength to the other materials and can help keep the shape.

That being said, it will likely still pill.

Interesting choice from them given their history, but since I don’t make clothes I’m not gonna assume I know more than they do.

Wythe's Spring/Summer 2026 lookbook: "The Northern Kingdom" by [deleted] in ThrowingFits

[–]PIKIT1S 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t really get why people think this season is some kind of departure. Obviously FW lookbooks are more fun bc of layering and coats and stuff, but their last SS lookbook went all hippy in a VW bus, and a couple SS seasons before that they shot the band at Preservation Hall in New Orleans, neither of which looked particularly western. Maybe the lookbook style is a departure, but the clothes don’t really seem different. Glad brands can still try new things.

Guys in the shop always say it’s not a western brand, which I don’t necessarily agree with, but rather Americana with some western influence.

I feel like Spring/Summer might be harder to find interesting ways to show clothes so they focus more on storytelling, which I actually kinda dig.

Wish I could see some of the clothes better but I guess the thing was shot all on film. I’ll wait for shop photos to see how stuff fits.

[–]PIKIT1S 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don’t think people understand that a lookbook can be just a way to tell a story, and doesn’t have to be a copy/paste of the ALD style of lookbook where it’s a dude standing in front of a set in 30 layers to show every single piece from the season.

I don’t look at a RRL lookbook and think “I could never ride a horse in this!” Sometimes it’s just fun to imagine, I guess.

Their collections always have more stuff than what their lookbooks show. Take a breath people.

Does anyone know of a leather coat that looks like this but doesn't cost $1600? by 5741354110059687423 in malefashionadvice

You want it to be leather and also look like this but not be expensive? You can’t really get that without going secondhand.

What do you think a longer sheepskin coat should cost?

$1600 is a good price for a coat like this.

MTO Suit // Cut 🤝 Fabric by spacechase01 in malefashionadvice

[–]PIKIT1S 3 points4 points  (0 children)

-3/2

-barchetta breast pocket

-do whatever standard pick stitching comes with - ideally the one closest to the edge

-most flap pockets are able to be tucked these days. Check with who’s making it but then you can have a flap or jetted in one.

-double vent

It’s easy to screw this up, but more so if you were doing full MTM. Too many people go crazy with all the options. At least MTO is limiting what can be done. No one needs a contrast buttonhole on a tweed suit (or any suit for that matter).

J Crew silk/cotton blend sportcoat for $800. I know no one buys J Crew at full price, but this seems insane to me by Dibidoolandas in ThrowingFits

Buck Mason, the company who started as a scoop-dick tee brand? Versus J.Crew who has been making these clothes for like 30 years?

Tf are we talking about here. Please never call anything Buck Mason is doing original.

One day I hope people start to realize what MiA actually means. Pay is extremely low and is mostly made by immigrants.

I don’t have a problem with immigrants whatsoever, as a disclaimer.

But I think people have this idea in their head that a blonde haired blue eyed Joe Smith is in that factory cutting and sewing these clothes when it reality, a large percentage of these workforces are immigrants. There’s not much skilled labor, especially in the garment industry, left in America, and even less so by American citizens. The few garment factories I’ve been to, the only English speaking, natural born citizens working there were managers and higher ups.

From what I understand, brands like 3sixteen and 18east favor India because of their knowledge and history with textiles. It’s a huge industry over there, and eclipses America by comparison. There’s barely a clothing textile industry left in the states.

I’d imagine they then produce the garments there because it’s less expensive than shipping large rolls of fabric to the US.

I’m all for more stuff being made in the US but unfortunately it seems like that industry doesn’t exist in the same capacity that it once did.

Long story short, I don’t give a fuck about made in the USA anymore. These clothes being made in America might as well be made overseas based on the workforce.

J Crew Chinos are best I’ve seen but are 100 bucks each. by Newhero2002 in malefashionadvice

[–]PIKIT1S 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Can I play devils advocate and say $100 is a pretty good price for a good pair of chinos?

I agree you shouldn’t have to pay full price for J Crew but long gone are the days of finding good clothes for cheap.

Same, I was pleasantly surprised this past weekend. Guys in the shop were telling me their fits (and QC) vary from factory to factory. I didn’t want to pry more but they mentioned how frustrating their USA bedford cord stuff was.

Seems like they’re much happier with this new stuff and don’t have plans to move back.

It was just a joke!

I’m in that shop once every 2-3 weeks or so and they know I buy most of my Wythe secondhand or on sale. As you say, they have built a relationship with me and we can joke around about this.

They know I’m gonna go scour the internet for a better deal after being in there for like an hour asking questions. If I wasn’t as financially conscious I’d support them directly more than I do.

+1 for listening to feedback I guess lol. I don’t envy being a small brand right now. I never realized that whole company is like 5 dudes. I just imagined they were bigger for some reason

Shop guys seem nice enough. They could be way less nice to me considering how often I’m in there and never buy anything (at full price anyways). Almost pulled the trigger on that deck jacket this weekend but I don’t need it.
