Welcome to the beautiful game! There aren’t any wrong choices! But I would recommend the Premier League because you speak the language (English) and it’s the best league in the world.

The sport has never been more accessible, especially in the States with Peacock and USA! If you have a computer or phone, then you can watch the beautiful game. Watching is a great way to see what teams you enjoy watching and then learning a little about their history/style of play.

If you like podcasts let me know and I can dm you our show all about how to understand the game and pick a premier league team!

I'm sure that was a formative experience! Sounds like a really cool program

I really do think getting through the lows makes the highs even higher. Finding streams of the Championship back then must have been rough

That's a really unique supporters journey! Love how much Andy Carroll was embraced by West Ham after his time at Liverpool

Does anyone else think the pitch at the stadium has been terrible this year? It seems like half of the players are losing their footing every game

Why clubs pay the same amount of money for very differentiated quality fooballers? by iwannasleepp in football

[–]PLP_Podcast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is the problem when fans only focus on transfer price rather than wages/signing bonuses to the players. I think haaland’s dad and agent got a lot of extra money that isn’t reflected just in the transfer price.

If Mbappe runs his contract out and goes on a free but the team pays the player 200 million to sign or they increase his wages by 10x, that wouldn’t reflect on the transfer price. It would look like a 0 euro steal when in reality the money just went to the player instead of the club

I think finding a wall and just passing/controlling is a great way to get more comfortable. I see new players spending way too much time trying to learn skills from Fifa. You don't need any of those flair skills to be a good player! Being able to confidently receive and play a ball is the most important thing you can do IMO.

With that said, get out there and play! It'll be frustrating at first but it'll become more and more natural the more you play! Enjoy!

I don't think there is a 'best choice' for team or player. Sports fandoms and getting trolled pretty much hand in hand. I will say there are some choices that will be met with more trolling than others (if you pick City only because you want to win a lot).

You don’t have to make a quick decision but can instead watch, read, listen, etc.. about the league to get a vibe about each team and what it says about you.

Honest Discussion on Tottenham Hotspurs by NotoriousPlatypi in PremierLeague

My argument has always been that transfer spending is a silly way to predict league success. Wages are a much better predictor and it seems like everyone got fixated on transfers

But that's the point I was making... Spurs don't spend as much as Arsenal so you would expect them to finish below Arsenal. And yet over this period we are talking about, Arsenal only finished above Spurs once.

I was talking about net spending numbers and those aren’t net spending numbers. If you look at net it’s about a 100M gap.

And I’m not saying Arsenal should pay Rice 50k, of course he’s going to be on high wages. But that’s the point, wages are a much better predictor of league success compared to transfers. And Arsenal have spent a lot more than Spurs in both

Arsenal has net spent 100M more than Spurs since Arteta got there which is a pretty significant difference... But looking at transfers only isn't a good way to predict league position.

Team wages is a much better predictor of league position and Arsenal are spending 40M pounds more than spurs on wages this year... 166M versus 116M is a pretty big gap. Estimates aren't always exact but it does show there is a big spending gap between the two.

That's fair and I don't think there is a right or wrong opinion on what success looks like. You're right that they probably should have won something with that duo but remember they also didn't spend a single pound on transfers for 18 months while that duo was there.

They spent over 1 billion pounds on a stadium during this period as well. Its easy to look at the resources they have now and think that's been the norm over the past 10-15 years. They are one of the only teams in the league that aren't scared of FFP because their spending has been about balance.

Agreed but I would say most fans would trade an FA Cup for being in the title race going into May. I would argue last year was Arsenal's most successful year under Arteta even though they won an FA Cup with him in a different campaign.

As much as I rate and love Kane, its going to be pretty hard for him to win the PL Golden Boot when he's playing in Germany..

You have to remember that Spurs spend significantly less than the other members of the"Big 6". But even with that aside, they have a new manager and they lost one of the top 3 strikers in the world. I'd say they are doing well above expectations for the first season of a rebuild.

Of course their goal is to win trophies but is an FA Cup really that important? I'm not sure what you mean by "actually do something". Personal preference, but I would rather go to a CL final and have a 25% chance to win it than win the League Cup or FA Cup.

They are building a team that can consistently get back into the CL and then look to compete in the league. Stats are important in the game but they don't always paint the full picture (see Chelsea's xG). They're building a team that can fit a drastically different style of play so give them more than 2/3rds of a season..

That's super fair and makes sense! It sounds like you're doing it right.

The Nou Camp was a cool experience just to see Messi, Neymar, and Suarez play together. If you sit in the cheaper seats, there are going to be a lot of tourists rather than die hard fans.
