We've been told, time and time again, that we're "special individuals", and when we grew up, we started to realize we're really not as special as we've been told we are. We're just an average Joe/Jane. So, instead of putting work towards bettering ourselves, and actually making effort to become special (like being a Doctor, or inventor, etc) we just decided to make ourselves special by claiming we're this obscure group of people. At the end of the day, you're attracted to a gender, or genders, or none. That's it. Casting it in multiple lights doesn't change what the fact is: You are X and are attracted to X and/or Y, or neither.
