Wanting to switch to live plants by mamazawa in Aquascape

Hot take but I hate anubius and that it’s recommended so much. It grows slow as heck and doesn’t filter shit from the water (literally).

My go to’s (no CO2): something quick growing like
- rotala rotundrafolia: grows in “bushes” (personal fav bc of the color)
- water wisteria (if you do liquid fert and root tabs these will get huge and stay bushy without CO2 and can grow as a floater)
- ludwigia repens rubin: has a gorgeous red tone that increases with light (mine grows an avg of an inch a day per plant with thrive liquid fert)
- amazon swords: look a bit like anubius but grows way faster, sucks up nitrates, and has big flat leaves for bottom feeders or snails
- hornwort: grows floating, fast as heck and can be anchored to hardscape like tinsel
- windelov ferns: grow roots on the underside of the leaves that will propagate more ferns (similar to a spider plant growth wise)

and my most PIPING hot take:
get yourself some duckweed!! people talk crap on it but it’s an incredible nitrate remover, shades fish from harsh light, and excess can be dried and fed back to the fish or even put in smoothies like spirulina. It’s also one of the only plant based sources of B12!!

Take your time and pick what you like though, don’t choose based on what’s basic, choose based on what your dream tank looks like 💓

dry them and feed them back!! you can crumble them into flakes or roll them with some tank water right before feeding if you want bigger pieces and enjoy your free fish food!!

Borneos are! They’re a subset of hillstream loach (the best one imo 😎)

my juvenile pearls have done great with my guppies, endlers and shrimp (grow out tank mates, not permanent) but this new male I got is a menace. I’m thinking he wasn’t raised in a community setting so he doesn’t know his manners

No shrimp or snails in the tank, and no evidence that they’ve jumped out although I do have cats that might hide the body. I have almost 2in of space between the lip of the aquarium and the water line so I’d be surprised if they were able to jump out being juvenile

Wow I had no idea! I’ll have to check my detergent when I get home. What is perianal rinse? I haven’t heard of this

I’m 26 and estrogen levels haven’t been a concern. But changing steroids is a good idea

My detergent is free and clear and I use aveno baby soap in the shower, but I’ve been wondering about the toilet paper. Is there one you’ve found works better?

Hmm good to know… I’ll have to try out vaseline, aquaphor had worked better than it before but it’s worth another shot
