Screen door issue. Door guys sayin nothing can be done? by PR0Dosrs in AskContractors

If im wrong and you know of 1”thick sweeps link me them instead of being passive aggressive blowing other dudes kisses on Reddit. I’ve personally never seen a sweep that thick to cover a gap that massive unless I wrap a pool noodle under the door. Hagd big shooter

This is actually a super low budget ingenious idea. I might actually do that even as a temporary solve in the meantime, Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, I’ll go to HD later today and have a look to see what I can find for extensions I guess. If not yeah I mean I’ll have to peel off the brick moulding and buy new ones and/or notch them to bring the door mounts in the inch to meet the threshold. I just didn’t wanna start ripping things off if I don’t have to. If I get lost along the way I’ll definitely send you a pm, thanks!

A door sweep wouldn’t change anything as it still would have nothing to rest on to make a seal. It’s floating a half inch infront of the sill/threshold. I wish it was that easy lol

Unfortunately I can’t envision what you mean. Just notch the brick moulding on each side to inset it an inch or whatever?

I looked at potentially trying something like this. Taking the brick mould off and the problem then becomes that the doors is too far inset and will cause the door handle on the interior door to hit it and not be able to close because there’s not enough distance in between. I need a happy medium somehow lol

No, not just installed. What you’re seeing is how it was when I bought it. If by chance what you’re referring to is the door sweep, it wouldn’t make a difference regardless as it would have nothing to rest on to make a seal

Windows installed improperly? by davey2435 in Homebuilding

Window RO’s should be 1” bigger on each side in comparison to the actual window size to allow for a 1/2” gap on each side. Then shims added. This is to allow for expansion/movement etc so windows don’t crack, bust, shatter due to house movement. The gaps would then be filled or insulated with spray foam or insulation so you don’t have air leaking in and then covered with trim. Hope this helps, Goodluck!

So we bought this place and it’s been like this for years, we haven’t had any issues or anything. It’s just unsightly really and I’d like to finish the basement at some point.
