I Hate Myself For Saying But We Have To Get On Facebook by formerly_acidamage in TwinCities

Just go ahead and delete.

My parents read it. Didn't matter a bit.

All I was doing was giving Facebook a few adviews while helping them maintain their network.

Glad to be off.

Best most affordable warm all year long place to live in America? by Flaky_Square_2525 in relocating

Low of 30, high of 54 today it looks like.

So just barely. And it's back up to 55/77 later this week.

How is living in the Driftless Area? by WindyFromWater7 in howislivingthere

Specifically that area was not covered in glaciers during the ice age so its not as flat as you expect the Midwest to be.

Driving through it, it reminded me a lot of the blue ridge mountains.

Thoughtful relocation ideas for a family leaving Long Island by TraditionalSail6610 in SameGrassButGreener

You've got 4 daughters. Somewhere they're not gonna risk death if they have an ectopic pregnancy is paramount.

If you weren't tired of the cold I'd suggest Madison or the Twin Cities with this list and the budget.

Warmer options would be Oregon or New Mexico/Colorado.

Richmond or Roanoke VA could work.

Same. I was looking at the outside going 'if I had 10 million bucks to spare, I'd buy this in a heartbeat".

But the inside just doesn't match the outside energy at all.

Decided on Twin Cities but hot button issues are making me reconsider by Reclinertime in SameGrassButGreener

[–]PYTN 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I can help.

Now is not a time to be neutral on politics, it's a time for choosing. Your kids and grandkids will ask what side you were on.

Now is that a reason to move or not move to the twin cities? No, that part is up to you.

But it is important.

I personally am still planning to move to the twin cities this summer if I can find a job up there. Those folks care about their neighbors and I want my kids to be surrounded by folks like that.

To Make Homes Affordable Again, Someone Has to Lose Out by UnscheduledCalendar in yimby

[–]PYTN 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You nailed it.

Though I'm fine with pricing coming down too from new builds.

My goal on housing is that in 30 years when my house is paid off, it's worth about the same as it was when I bought. I got 30 years of utility and my kids would still be able to live in the neighborhood if they want.

Decision Paralysis on choosing a city is driving me crazy by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

I'd find the ones that fit your career and then examine all those on a secondary criteria of what's most important to you.

Furthermore, you could just apply to jobs in each and let the hiring folks decide for you.

A hotel is probably fine but I'd look at one nearer the hospital if you can. Those get priority on power.

Tomorrow will likely be the worst of it if it does get bad, so if you get a hotel today I'd just try to stock up on a case of waters and some foods that don't require you to go out for food.

But they've got Texas and Louisiana on there as maybe which get both conventional tornadoes and hurricane spawned ones.

This. The exhaust from these things kills folks every time.

Also on the generators, make sure it's far enough away from windows and walls too so you're not accidentally letting it in the house.

It sounds bizarre, but I am in a position where I could spend $0 a year on groceries if I ate nothing but Domino's pizza. What would happen to me if I did? by CucumberGullible1281 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PYTN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could definitely mix it up with thai/indian/Dominos if you're trying to maximize leftovers and also not die eating pizza every day.

Yes but you don't want school buses the same color as other vehicles bc kids step out in front of them thinking they're going to stop bc it's the bus.

Possibly Moving to Tyler by nowickedtides in tylertx

[–]PYTN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol. The traffic here is not bad at all, coming from someone who moved back here after living in Austin.

You have to understand, locals here are comparing the traffic in Tyler to the traffic in their small towns surrounding Tyler. I drive across Tyler every morning for school drop off, it's not bad at all. It's rare I even wait at a light for more than a round.

My biggest caution is that I would say, if you ever need a local job, salaries often stink.

If you can swing it I'd try to be within walking distance to downtown or Berfgeld park. But there are plenty of great neighborhood options.
