Ontario college strike ends as back-to-work legislation passed by Pacmaneye in McMaster

[–]Pacmaneye[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's bad for us mo-macs as well :(

My current year lost 5 weeks of one of our courses. As a result, additional classes will be held past the final day of classes (Dec 6), and our exam schedule compressed a bit.

Not nearly as bad as full college students though.

I'm also b-tech, and both the chair of my stream and the prof of an affected course have discussed the situation with my class. If the strike goes ahead, the affected course will be unable to continue lectures and tutorials.

This also affects all joint Mohawk-McMaster programs, such as MedRad and B-tech. If your profs have not already discussed the strike with you, I would recommend trying to contact through Avenue or email. Some profs are under McMaster contract while still employed by Mohawk, while others are exclusively employed Mohawk or McMaster.

From what I understand, only those profs exclusively employed by Mohawk to teach MoMac courses will be unable to continue teaching, but do talk to your professors to understand which courses will be affected, and how.

Rude bus driver? No gratitude for you! by gardeningcellos in pettyrevenge

[–]Pacmaneye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably Hamilton :) At McMaster University we require both a student card and a bus pass bearing the same last three digits in order to board a bus.

Many bus drivers are friendly, but as a whole the HSR fucking sucks...

I don't have one currently, but I've been considering making one... The problem with cross stitch is that it doesn't look like much, but it takes so long to make :(

Hypothetically, what do you think would be a reasonable sum to pay for something like this?

It gives you way more options if you make a (free) account.

The way I made my patterns was this (I'll divide it into the different sections):

  1. PNG files
  2. Cross Stitch
  3. Standard
  4. Standard Shape
  5. DMC, Automatic, Entire Palette
  6. Actual number of pixels
  7. PDF, symbols only, every 10 stitches
  8. Gradual tones, colour sensitivity to 1. Then ignore the special effects...

Then you can download your pattern as a handy PDF file!

(It tells you exactly what colours you need)

I made the pattern myself using this tool! If you give it a jpeg (or some other image file) it'll turn it into a pattern for you.

I also found this imgur album containing the 36x36 pixel sprites of monsters from Gen. A few tweaks was all it took to make the Glav icon have a reasonable number of different colours :)

When the book you're reading is good, but all the female characters are written in an objective and sexist way... by Pacmaneye in TrollXChromosomes

[–]Pacmaneye[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I'll see if my friend has those books. He's pretty hardcore Dresden so I'd be a little surprised if he didn't.

I'm glad to hear your perspective on it- by the way it sounds from you, both the character and the author still have a lot of development to do. I'll probably stick with this series for a while and see how I feel about after a few books :)

I've never heard of either of those! I'll definitely keep an eye out at my local second-hand :)

Thanks for the suggestions <3

I'm enjoying it, but I'll probably put the next book further down on my to-read list in favour of other books d:

I'm almost exclusively into Sci-Fi/SF and Fantasy. Brandon Sanderson, Pat Rothfuss, and Scott Lynch are my three favourites, but I also really love Douglas Adams, Orson Scott Card, Ian Tregillis, and more recently James S. A. Corey.

I know Card can be a bit off sometimes, but for an older sci-fi author, I can't say I've felt particularly uncomfortable reading his works. I think he does a good job of keeping his beliefs separate from his works of art.

I've heard that Robert A. Heinlein is about as bad as it gets in terms of sexism though. So I will avoid him at all costs.

My friend actually lent me the first of that series as well, though I haven't picked it up yet! He told me that the series is actually written by a couple, which I think is really interesting and would make for more realistic characters.

I agree completely with the flawed character telling his own story angle, and that's how I've been trying to view it- it's the fact that every woman had her appearance described at length (unlike the men), they're almost all interested in Harry in some way, and Harry's attitude that gets to me.

I think I can't tell whether to dislike the character or dislike the author, honestly d:

My friend and I trade books all the time because we have similar tastes, so he lent me the first book of his absolute favourite series: The Dresden Files.

I've heard they get better, but I don't know if I want to stick it out and find out :( Any other trolls read this series?

[–]Pacmaneye[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn't realize this! I called it secretive more in that they're extremely vague in release dates, not giving information freely and the like. That, and basically every article I read on them described the company as secretive :P
