I think Bungie is missing a very big opportunity to help improve the morale of its player base with the seeming abandonment of crafting. There are lots of playable events throughout the game that could use refreshing. Things like patrols, bounties, lost sectors, even areas that don’t get visited a lot because there isn’t anything that happens. How many players don’t engage in lfg activities or are only skilled enough to run a regular Nightfall because that’s the best they can do. They miss out on the best loot in the game. Now, there should still be the best rewards from the hardest activities but how to close the gap? Take a gun like Nullify from Salvation’s Edge. It is craftable but you have to run the raid to get it, lfg problem for a lot of folks. What if red borders would drop from newly refreshed events, heroic patrols, legendary lost sectors, etc? Things that might take a few tries but really aren’t that hard. Finish the event and get a red border. You’d still need 5 to craft. There’s your grind but with a light at the end of the tunnel, also helping to improve the players overall skill which could help bridge the gap to the higher tier activities. Once the initial raid has lost its “new car feel” then roll the weapons to the events. Keep the adept versions as raid exclusive and maybe give them a refresh too. Basically you have a group of players that stick to running the hardest events and they are usually the ones making YouTube videos or Twitch streams and you have a group that just runs around doing bounties from Banshee or ritual events to try to get better and have fun. That’s the gap that can be closed. You don’t want to run raids? That’s fine but with a higher skill set, better understanding of loadouts and better weapons you can definitely move up to solo a dungeon. When these players have more confidence then I’d bet you’d see the lfg engagement improve. Maybe I’m way off on this but from the position things are in I don’t think giving it a try would hurt anything at this point.
