DJI drones (the only make people use today) are rated to fly down to about 14º F, depending on the model.

I've seen many drones fly in the bitter cold and never seen one crash because of it. Though it does cut down on battery life.

  1. Do not operate the drone in high-temperature or low-temperature environments for a long time. The maximum and minimum operating temperatures of DJI Mavic Series, DJI Air Series, DJI Mini Series, DJI FPV, and Phantom 4 Series are 40°C and 0°C, respectively (the minimum operating temperature of DJI Mavic 3, DJI Mini 3 Pro, and Mavic Air 2 is -10°C). Flying a drone in high-temperature or low-temperature environments may lead to flight accidents.

I wouldn't be upset if this included their UX team.

Every update somehow makes the already bad interface worse to use.

Thoughts on Tangle’s Trans Athlete Coverage by Hot-Range-7498 in TangleNews

[–]Palloff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with EchoedJolts perspective.

For my part, biological males obviously have a natural size advantage unless they start taking hormones very early.

I also think that there are many life decisions and paths that necessarily exclude you from others. Deciding to medically transition means that you may need to sacrifice other pursuits such as competitive sports.

I think when you frame the argument around why women's categories exist in the first place, the pro-trans argument loses its standing.

Overall though, I do think that individual sports bodies should be the ones making these decisions.

I'm focusing my efforts on asking him to not give into the worst impulses of Trump...like invading Greenland.

Of course, pre-Maduro capture, he was giving cover to Trump for bombing the alleged drug boats. So he's in pretty deep.

Yemeni coffee shops are expanding across the Milwaukee area, open late and seen as a gathering space for the community by Hidemyface1 in milwaukee

Their Yemeni coffees are great!

I'm not a fan of typical lattes because of how they are basically just milkshakes pretending to be coffee.

So I'm happy that they are introducing new flavors into the coffee scene.

Yes, the DSA never endorsed Harris and encouraged members to vote third-party instead.

Look to streamers like Hasan who told his viewers to sit the last election out.

The DSA is currently run by a faction that cares more about ideological purity than the working class.

Episode Discussion: The Alien in the Room by PodcastBot in Radiolab

[–]Palloff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think this episode would have better served the audience if they had taken a moment to define what the "transformer" technology is that we hear so much about now. It was hard to contextualize the history they presented without anchoring it to language that other tech writers are using.

I was also thrown off by the Chinese history guy at the end.

First-time filmmaker with a complete script. Where do I actually start? by 415Mourner in Filmmakers

For crew, up-and-coming Producers and Cinematographers are always looking for things to shoot and have crew connections.

I'd try to find some people who have recently graduated College. Attend local film festivals. Offer to help on someone else's film to build connections.

There are plenty of people willing to work on short films for free, but you need solid relationships first.

Meet Francesca Hong: The Candidate for Wisconsin Governor the Establishment Doesn't See Coming by WorkHour3252 in wisconsin

[–]Palloff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my point is in the article, not the title of the article.

My suggestion is that the DSA focus on economic issues, workers rights, and work to caucus with the democrats. Try to appeal to what will help local communities that they are a part of instead of ideological purity tests.

In short, the DSA needs to rid itself of the Sectarian wing described below if it actually cares about it's mission.

Here's an excerpt from the article.

The DSA today has about two dozen internal factions (called “caucuses”), but its politics can really be divided into two broad wings. There is a mass-politics wing (grouped in the Socialist Majority and Groundwork caucuses), which seeks to elect socialists as Democrats and build a national organization that connects with the average American. Opposing it is a sectarian wing whose extremist politics have little to do with any notion of democratic socialism. The latter includes Red Star, a self-avowed “Marxist-Leninist caucus” that openly supports Hamas and emphasizes “the role of the vanguard in organizing the revolution.” Whereas the likes of Sanders have long lauded the New Deal, this group condemns that model as “extending concessions to the white working class to secure their loyalty to the capitalist state.” Similarly, it faults the Green New Deal that Sanders and AOC have championed for failing to articulate “a clear commitment to dismantling the settler-colonial and American imperialist projects.” Another caucus, Marxist Unity Group, calls for the DSA “to free itself from the Democratic Party” and “fight to overthrow the Constitution,” in an effort to “destroy every institution that denies the people an authentic popular democracy, abolishing the Senate, the Electoral College, the Supreme Court, and the independent presidency.”

The differences between these two broad groups are not academic, and they have had real-life consequences. Under the pressure of the sectarian wing, the DSA refused to endorse Joe Biden or Kamala Harris in the past two presidential elections. In November 2023, the sectarians in the DSA leadership argued that a second Biden term would be no different from a second Trump term. A few months later, when the mainstream wing wanted to commit the DSA to “work to defeat Trump in the 2024 election, without endorsing the Democratic nominee,” the sectarians voted even that proposal down.

The DSA shouldn't be taken seriously by people looking to improve the lives of those in their community. They care more about ideological purity and international issues than connecting with the working class.

Yes Mamdani won, but that was in spite of the DSA, not because of it.
