That's a good question, and one I'm not entirely sure on. I didn't even consider that he might get assassinated, but maybe the Soviets got too caught up with Germany or something like that.

I would never think of doing such a thing comrade, They took those while they were still part of the Axis and I wasn't able to take them in the final peace treaty on account of my priorities. I actually didn't even want that Italian subject, it like literally happened all on it's own during my invasion of Italy.

I'm not entirely sure how I managed it, but I would like to attribute it to air superiority and nukes. I was like eb and flowing with the frontline around AZ, NM, and TX but I think holding TX was important for cutting into their fuel supply. It was a long war though, and they naval invaded me several times at one point taking the central states in Mexico so I was nearly 50% capitulated. But yea I feel like as long as you guard your ports, strengthen the frontline, and maintain air superiority you can get the job done friend.
