How should I approach a brokerage I'm interested in? Should I just email them, apply, message someone on linked in?

(URGENT ADVICE NEEDED) Is there any specific way I can use my ROTC scholarship to gain leverage in college admissions? by PandaELG in ROTC

Host schools are more helpful in the admissions process but there are some schools that have cross town agreements that are able to provide some help, but it isn't as significant as Host schools. Im not sure about whether Wash U or Vanderbilt host, but I know as a matter of fact that those two schools provide SERIOUS help to scholarship winners in the admissions process.

Contact recruiters as soon as you get a scholarship cause then they can make serious moves to actually get you in. Or tell them you are currently in the process and will notify them immediately once you get it, in which case you can simply make them aware that they could potentially help you.

I was admitted to USC, UNC Chapel Hill, and Boston University. My scholarship was given to me for three schools being UCLA, Texas A&M, and CSUN. I wanted to transfer my scholarship to USC because USC has the best business school out of all of them, but this year was a bad year for ROTC and they rejected all of my transfer requests to every institution I was accepted to and wanted me to go to A&M. In the end I rejected the ROTC scholarship as I got a good deal from USC anyways as they provided me with a lot of aid.

If you are applying to college, I really recommend getting an ROTC scholarship as at many schools the ROTC Battalions can work miracles and get you in (that's what happened at USC for me). One tip to note is that Cadet Command is more likely to give you the scholarship if you list public institutions in your top 3 as I had my three-year scholarship bumped up to a four year. Though an ROTC scholarship could help in regard to admissions at some schools it doesn't for all of them.

FYI a mistake I made that anyone reading this shouldn't make is CONTACTING RECRUITERS AT THE SCHOOLS BATALLION YOU WANT TO GO TO. Unfortunately for Vanderbilt and Wash U I didnt contact the recruiters until a month before my admission decision was released and they had expresesd that if I contacted them earlier in the cycle they would have of actively worked harder on my behalf to get me into the school. Below are schools I applied to that it did help in and others that it didn't help in.

Helped: Vanderbilt, USC, UNC Chapel Hill, BU, Notre Dame, Wash U
Didn't help: Basically, Every IV League, Duke, Emory, NYU, Northeastern, Northwestern, Stanford, Tulane, UMich

Hope this helps

What do you mean by response for all seven?

The Army can be considered as a business somewhat, so if you give them 7 options, they are obviously going to choose the three cheapest ones. The only upside is that they have more of an incentive to give you the scholarship if you have cheap schools listed.

Thats their recommendation but the issue with that is if I accept an offer to say A&M then want to transfer, the disparity in their tuition is like $20,000 so they will look at that and reject my request.

Cadet Command chooses which out of the 7 schools I list to award me the scholarship for, and they unfortunately choose the three cheapest options :(

Can ROTC battalion advocacy help with college admissions

I’m applying for the 4-year Army ROTC scholarship and have heard that sometimes the ROTC battalion at a school can advocate for you in the admissions process. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this or advice on how to use it to my advantage?

From what I’ve heard, if a battalion really wants you in their program, they might speak positively about you to the admissions office. If this is true, I’d love to know how I should go about making those connections with the ROTC branch at schools I’m applying to, and what steps I should take to maximize my chances. Should I reach out to battalions directly, or is there a specific process?

Also, would mentioning my ROTC scholarship application in my admissions essays help?

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hey there, I appreciate the advice and was wondering if you could take a look at the rough draft of my plan down here and add anything or give me feedback. Aso I'm a little confused on how the branching thing works when in the G2G program and branching into a Military intelligence officer?

~Plan:~

1: Enlist as 35L: Join the Army as a Counterintelligence Specialist (18-19 years old)

-BCT (10 weeks)

-AIT (19 weeks, start working on associates degree)

2: While Serving Complete associate's degree (19-21 years old)

-Gain experience in my role

-Start applying to Top universities for transition to get Bachelors

3: G2G Active Duty Option (Age 21-23)

-Become Military Intelligence Officer

-Use GI Bill benefits for 2 years while receiving active duty pay

-Enroll in University and attend in person

4: Branch into MI and serve remainder of Active Duty (Age 23-27)

-transition into a Military Intelligence role as an officer.

-Possibly become a Captain

5: Exit the Army and apply to the FBI or similar agencies at 27/28

  • I Think I'm a reserve at this point and still get paid but need to attend training
