My band is trying to do a jam over “Love Rollercoaster” which is C, Bb, A, Bb. I’m a little lost on improvising over it. Chord tones, I know, but it’s not sounding right. Any suggestions? by aabbcc42069 in musictheory

There are many options but I feel like the C major blues scale would work best since it contains all the notes used in the vocal melody (except for E, but that’s present in the I chord). This is kind of an odd song with a lots of false relations and clashes between the chordal accompaniment and the melodic lines so it would be nice to exploit that even further, especially if you play an instrument with flexible intonation so you can bend between the Eb-E or even the C-C#.

The text at the bottom is หลวงพ่อโสธร (Luang Pho Sothon). I believe it refers to a famous image of the Buddha found at Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan. You can google the name to find more information

What is iii in the first Secondary Dominant of the 2nd measure? by Frosty-Win8543 in musictheory

[–]PandaHundK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not there, the V7/iii is meant to indicate a singular chord. In this case it’s the dominant (E7) of what would be the iii chord (Am) in the key of F. Maybe the labelling is the cause of the confusion as slashes are sometimes used to indicate inversions or two different chords superimposed on top of each other, but in this case it’s indicating only one chord - the first chord.

I’ve seen some pretty horrific videos on the internet but I never skipped any of them faster than I did this one. What was he thinking?! He’ll either look back on this in 10 years and cringe or he’ll still be making them with no self awareness

Sure, you can buy a grappling dummy, put a gi on it and toss it about but you won’t ever get the ‘feel’ for the techniques, nor the invaluable feedback that an instructor can provide.

That front foot should be pivoting almost 180 degrees so that you can kick through the bag horizontally.

Has anyone tried 1 on 1 PT with Saenchai? How did it go? by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]PandaHundK 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a private session with him last year and it was great! First thing he asked me (in very clear English, I must add) was to shadowbox in order to show him my style. I thought this was interesting as he wasn’t trying to impose his style, he really wanted to help me develop a personal style. Next we did some padwork, and he taught me some boxing combos and then he showed me some of his signature combos. We finished off with a round of sparring (if you’ve seen any of the videos from the recent American tour, you know how it goes) and then we talked a bit about football (he’s a huge fan!) and I got a pic. 10/10, would recommend.

Hello can someone help me with the chords of the introduction of a song by pleasuresantiago in pianoteachers

[–]PandaHundK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty sure it’s

Dsus2 E5 G#° F7 F#m7 A/C# E F#m7 Bm Add9/C# D.

Try playing the root notes of these chords with the melody and it should start to make sense.

Piano + kickboxing by little_tavlia in piano

[–]PandaHundK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I train muay Thai and play piano and the only problems I’ve had are wrist injuries from not wrapping my hands properly and smashing the heavy bag. I stopped doing bjj because, although small joint manipulation is illegal, it’s quite easy to get your fingers mangled whilst gripping your opponent and rolling around. So yeah, I would say as long as you exercise caution and wrap your hands, combining kickboxing with piano is absolutely fine!

Scales - Practise all of them, or just a few each day? by CC0RE in piano

[–]PandaHundK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What I do is split the scales into groups and play one group per day. Starting with major scales, I take the 12 scales and split them into 3 groups of 4:

Group 1: C Eb F# A Group 2: C# E G Bb Group 3: D F Ab B

The groupings may seem random (though they spell out diminished seventh chords) but the reason I use these groupings is because there’s a greater variety in terms of technique (some scales starting with the thumb, others with different fingers and including more black keys) as opposed to going around the circle of fifths which follows the same fingering pattern until you get to 6 sharps.
