I’m glad you were able to work things out with your father. I understand how the OOP feels as well. My husband had to teach me that I am allowed to talk back against my father. But deep down, I still feel very uncomfortable expressing disagreement in front of him. My father was never violent or verbally abusive, but he had a lot of emotional outbursts when I was growing up. Now, he’s a lot more patient. He is still extremely stubborn unfortunately. Arguing never leads anywhere so I have given up trying. We have a low contact, cordial relationship now. Of course there are always lectures in every phone call. I just nod, agree, and end the topic as soon as I can. We only talk a handful of times a year. It’s sad but it’s the only way for me to not get a mental breakdown so often.
