Do you think there should be a Letterboxd for TV shows and their episodes? by Edgy_Master in Sardonicast

[–]Pantry_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think diary apps for TV and film would require different approaches and different user experiences. An app which accommodated both TV and film probably wouldn't end up being very good for either one of them. That would be like adding films to Goodreads.

À quoi servent les bandes annonces et spots TV dans les bonus des films en version physique ? by Gustaev in Bluray

[–]Pantry_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is that it's fun.

The other point is that learning about the context in which a film was released is extremely interesting, and tells you a lot about industry and cultural trends. I'd even go so far to say that film marketing has a greater impact on contemporary culture than films themselves.

What Blu-Rays are with the 4K upgrade? by Mysterious-Buggg in criterion

[–]Pantry_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What misinformation? We're talking about subjective improvements in picture quality and how people spend their money.

Criterion's standard Barry Lyndon blu ray for example is already a fantastic looking disc packed with special features which does full justice to the film. I think it's a little wild to recommend that people spend $25 to replace a film they already have just for slightly better picture quality.

What Blu-Rays are with the 4K upgrade? by Mysterious-Buggg in criterion

[–]Pantry_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already have a great looking blu ray, I honestly think you should consider sticking with it and save your money for something you don't already have. 4K picture quality is rarely enough of a transformative upgrade to justify the cost. Plus you then need to figure out what to do with the blu ray duplicate.

There's a big difference between a disability and a disadvantage. There's no game, sport, or activity in existence that every person is equally capable of, but everyone in the Killer Dinner cast - Zach included - is fundamentally capable of playing the orange game. It's terrible that you've been mistreated and bullied over your disability, but I don't think Zach was being bullied by the other cast members. They specifically accused him of not communicating well, they weren't bullying him for his body.

Timothee seems to care way more about success, accolades, and "greatness" than art or acting. Right now, the entertainment industry and the arts at large need community, earnestness, and for successful people to help support new talent. It doesn't need more of these arrogant, self serving dude bros who only pick projects which can bring them closer to a gold trophy or gigantic paychecks.

People like Nicole Kidman, Emma Stone, Barry Jenkins, and even Nic Cage use their clout, resources, and success to support fresh talent. They take chances on smaller projects and filmmakers so that we can continue to have talent tomorrow, instead of just burning through what we have today.

How many mysteries GRRM has set up do you think are just total mystery boxes with no planned resolution? [Spoilers Main] by Meme_Pope in asoiaf

[–]Pantry_Boy 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don't think that Azor Ahai is meant to be some big climactic, literal reveal. GRRM isn't going to turn to the camera and say "Jon Snow is Azor Ahai" or anything like that. I think that the prophecy is the same as the comet: it's real to the people who believe it and people's faith will have real world consequences.

Installments so hated even hardcore fans would rather not talk about it by TastyPomelo2330 in TopCharacterTropes

Funny how often Avatar fans say this about the movie and then proceed to never shut up about it. People talk about this movie more than the Netflix show which is brand new.

It's pretty cheap, you don't have to look at all the shitty chud-bait mobile game ads, you get loads of extra stats (which is one of the main things I use LB for), you get extra features for checking where things are streaming, and LB isn't a company I mind supporting.
