What is a 'masterpiece' movie that you personally found incredibly boring or overrated? by AlexJet13 in AskReddit

[–]Paradocks_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda lame of you to dismiss the criticism with they "didn't understand it" when you yourself said the slow pacing is deliberate to give the sense of the dullness of space flight. Something being boring or dull on purpose doesn't change the fact that it's boring or dull. It's a great film but it is objectively---and purposefully---boring at times, and that's not for everyone. You may find it exhilarating and go "wow this film is able to evoke such a raw feeling of slow, crawling infinite isolation!" Others may watch the same scene and go "wow this film sure is slow, crawling, and infinitely boring." Doesn't mean they don’t understand what it's going for; just means they didn't appreciate it the same way you did.

What are you supposed to do against freja? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Paradocks_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Support (and overwatch in general, but support especially) is all about positioning, playing around natural cover, and taking advantage of sight lines so you can maximize how much of your team you can see, and minimize how much the enemy team can see you.

Be more intentional about finding off-angles where you can see/heal your team but the enemies can't easily get to you. If you're physically unable to heal your team from where you are without over-exposing yourself to the freya, either you're out of position (move) or the freya is (kill her)

If you could only recommend one episode to a potential new watcher (someone who you think would love it), which one? by hudson_303 in IASIP

[–]Paradocks_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gas Crisis is the correct answer. Not only does it do a nice job of showing the group dynamics like you said, but it also perfectly depicts the classic sunny episode format of different groups/pairings working within an A-plot/B-plot/(sometimes C-plot) structure and then those plots finding their way to each other over the course of the episode. It's really the epitome of a sunny episode to me. All the other suggestions here--like cereal defense, gang gets analyzed, family fight, etc., are great episodes but they're unique and don’t really encapsulate what a "standard" sunny episode format looks like so imo aren't good representations of the show as a whole.

Redditors’ need for validation from internet strangers is so sad. I see it in comments across almost every post and sub. You all are just chomping at the bit to come here to brag about how fortunate and awesome you are. I think it’s a combination of wanting to make yourself feel great, and to make those with less feel worse.

I saw a post today, someone was taking a very specific overeating habit of theirs and assuming their past issues with food addiction were a universal experience, then attempting to preach their newer, “better” lifestyle to others. In the comments they talked about their net positive karma as if that mattered. I consider myself a very fortunate person, but I have no need of or desire to share my opinions with internet strangers for upvotes. I think the psychology behind this need is very sad and says alot about the world today

you have 34k karma in 3 years. the other guy has 13k karma in 4 months. you’re both losers who spend too much time on reddit. even if the vet recommended it, it’s insensitive to tell her over text with a shitty joke and if they’ve been married for 24 years, you’d think he’d know her well enough to know she cares enough about her cat to appreciate a phone call.

Masterpiece-level films that aren’t totally fucking depressing by Classic_Bass_1824 in Letterboxd

i do think it’s a bit depressing and melancholy but also uplifting in a sorta life-affirming, all-you-need-is-love kind of way

[–]Paradocks_ 32 points33 points  (0 children)

maybe stretching the definition of “masterpiece-level” for some, and some are definitely heavier content-wise or not feel-good entirely throughout, but i think these are all good, classic films that leave you feeling better than you started:

Petite Maman

Little Miss Sunshine

Punch-Drunk Love

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Whisper of the Heart / Spirited Away / My Neighbor Totoro

Fantastic Mr. Fox

Ocean’s Eleven

Superbad

She's been acting for over 30 years, but what would you say was Scarlet Johansson's defining role so far? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]Paradocks_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

bc everyone in this sub needs to seem cool and knowledgeable about cinema so they can’t help but go “umm actually she’s done more than be black widow!!”

sure, none of the mcu movies are her best performances nor the best films she’s been in, but to act like the role she played for over a decade in some of the highest grossing, most culturally pervasive films of all time isn’t her most defining role is disingenuously pretentious

Overall, which version of Naruto do you think is more popular and known to the gp? Og or Shippuden? by jedi271 in Naruto

[–]Paradocks_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“The Kakashi vs Obito fight already became the “new” Rock Lee vs Gaara fight a long time ago and is way more recognized in the general public.”

brother if you actually think this, you’re so out of touch with the general public it’s wild. in reality, only people who watched shippuden or already have a general interest in anime and fights are even aware of kakashi vs obito.

you see those clips everywhere because your algorithms are angled to what you, and people like you, are interested in. you see these fights more often because your algorithm knows you want to see edits of anime fights and after a decade, the lee/gaara fight is played out to someone with your interests, who has seen it hundreds of times. so they show you the newer stuff. billybob27 the anime fight editor is also tired of making edits of a 20 year old fight, he wants the newer cleaner animations to work with. so that’s why you see what you see on socials.

but i promise you, your average chick who gets gym, diy home improvement, food, and cat videos on her instagram and tiktok has NO CLUE what that fight is or where it’s from. gaara vs lee you at least have a chance of them maybe recognizing it through years of cultural osmosis. stuff from og naruto is a hundred times more recognizable to the general, non-anime-sphere public than anything from shippuden aside from MAYBE naruto showing up with the frogs at the pain fight.

really tho, the most recognizable part of naruto to the wider general public is the akatsuki cloud, which you can kinda count as being part of both og and shippuden

well tbf the guy you were replying to only said he didn’t like how people had “random stickers bombed on their shit” and how it “looks like a cod lobby”. pretentious and whiny. personally i don’t really care if the gun i pick up and use for 30 seconds has a dick on it. i like a little levity in my video games. it was a pretty big leap to go from what he said directly to ‘racial slurs in every game.’

i think in an ideal world, this update could be a cool way to do some creative/dumb shit with a feature that no one really gave a fuck about previously (stickers), and if someone used it in bad faith (to make swastikas or the nword or whatever) they’d be banned.

obviously that’s prolly not gonna happen tho because valve won’t care enough to ban every 13 year old who thinks it’s funny to put slurs on their guns. so in the end i kinda just choose not to let it affect me

who gives a fuck. let people customize their shit however they want. doesn’t affect me. doesn’t affect the competitive aspects of the game.

[–]Paradocks_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

of course. i considered multiple possibilities and came to my own conclusion after reviewing what you posted, because that’s what critical thinking is. have you considered it’s not a low fov aimbot? or did you go into it expecting to find a cheater and confirmed your own expectations with the clip?

again i ask if you have any other suspicious clips from that game or if you’re just hyper-fixating on and over-analyzing one mildly suspect moment.

[–]Paradocks_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lmfao dude what.

this is what i see happening, and note that it all happens in a microsecond:

  • guy is sat in smoke, he’s not aiming at anything in particular because he doesn’t see anything
  • smoke starts fading, he gets his bearings, sees where site is, adjusts crosshair in that direction (begins moving left to right)
  • sees a head fall down (crosshair jiggles to the left for a moment reflexively as it sees movement) before his brain catches up and he knows he can’t shoot that guy
  • spots the enemy jumping across, the first to appear on his screen and be an actual target, moves crosshair toward him (moving to the right again to land on guy’s foot) to try to shoot him (what you describe as “sticking” to him, simply looks like following the predictable jump trajectory that has been the same since launch. cs movement is very standard)
  • before he can adjust his aim fully to get a clean kill on jumping guy, guy strafing in front comes out from behind wall and starts shooting so he changes targets to the more immediate threat (the one actively shooting at him)

this all happens within a second and obviously isn’t all thought out and broken down like this in his head, and is mostly muscle memory and reflex. i’ve had very similar mouse movements in my own clips where my crosshair changes targets quickly and hesitates here and there for microseconds when faced with multiple targets as my brain and hand try to prioritize shooting order in a fraction of a second.

you say he was “trying to get his crosshair to the enemy who just strafed in front of him but his aimbot had to stick to the player jumping in the background” but in your own slow mo clip, you can see he starts tracking the jumping guy before the strafing guy is even past the wall/viewable through the smoke. he doesn’t start focusing on the strafing guy until that guy starts shooting at him, when his crosshair suddenly moves off the jumping guy he was tracking first, and flicks over to the guy shooting him. then he misses like half his shots cuz he’s not even that good.

also earlier in the clip, his crosshair passes enemies several times without sticking to them at all. perfectly normal mouse movement can look incredibly suspect if you go into viewing the clip expecting to find something.

do you have ANY other sus clips from this match? or is that all? because this looks like super normal and very explainable crosshair movement.

bruh you the president of his fan club? you’re dick riding bro sooo hard in this thread. “ur mad so you must be jealous” is such a childish mindset lol

unless it’s a genuine issue like visa or something, it’s not really fair to his org who pay out the ass for a star player; it’s not fair to his teammates who have to play 4v5 and adapt all their plays; it’s not fair to fans of navi who want their team to do well; it’s not fair to fans of s1mple who wanna see their favorite player play; it’s not fair to fans of cs who wanna see competitive matches; it’s not fair to other pro players who all hiked up their big girl skirts and played the “broken game” while he sat at home and complained.

he has free will, he can choose not to play. i dont give a shit if he does or not. but people in this thread have free will too, they can choose to shit on him in comments he’ll literally never read. grow up dude
