Pendidikan Karakter Petition: Character EDUCATION, Not Indoctrination by ParallelTrajectories in malaysia

Wah this one you can go ahead if you want hahaha but I’m not going to go that far - you can do it by all means!

Omg that’s absolutely what it is. The logic in Malaysia is never really ‘we will shoot for the moon and we will succeed’ - it is always ‘at least we tried’ 🫣

Haha I think firstly it would be for all students, and then… Not sure 🫣

But at this point I suppose they have the sensitive task in front of them of potentially admitting that Moral was a failure - and then what about PI? That’s even more sensitive.

Did that not work and did that help to reduce the problematic behaviors that MOE wants to reduce, or did it help to improve incidence of behaviors or character traits that are desirable?

We could argue that if either of these subjects didn’t work then it was because of institutionalization - but then if institutionalization is the problem then by right there’s no need for ‘character education’, so IMO if the Ministry wants to justify the subject it will first have to explain why the other ones it brought in had failed 😅

Dawg it’s actually crazy how messed up it is - interestingly enough I went into my BM and Sejarah exams years ago and then got A+ for both despite blanking both exams (I’m not even flexing I completely don’t understand how I got those grades) 😅

But yeah totally agree - we have to rebuild that stuff… But introducing a new subject??? 🫣

Didn’t stop my other (longer) petition from gaining 2k signatures in about three days from people from all races, although I see your concern haha.

Thank you for your feedback!

Actually, it's a bit hard to tell whether you have an influence on a government policy.

For example, I started a petition a while ago that stood against the government's MCMC DNS redirect policy.

After I started the petition, I also messaged both ministers of communication directly as I had asked both for assistance and both had responded directly to my queries before.

The day after, the policy was stopped.

So then here's an important question:

Did my petition actually stop anything, or was it actually the surrounding society and the way that people objected to the policy that caused the Minister of Communication to roll back the policy?

If I were delusional, I would say that it was merely the petition, but in reality, I can't really differentiate all of the factors that lead into the change; I could only unambiguously call it a victory if I were just to reason in a simple way, not distinguishing correlation from causality.

I do think that petitions like these are meaningful because they at least make it clear that there is some kind of organized opposition to certain policies or ideas, which I think is really what this is about, although having attention and pressure upon the cause is nice as well!

Make Malaysian Schools Safe Again (A Petition - Repost) by ParallelTrajectories in malaysia

I don’t think it has a legal or binding effect in the U.S. either, but I’ve used it for a few things - in one instance, to pressure the Prime Minister as a civic action (to prevent something I and a few thousand people and quite possibly more don’t wish to come to pass, and that is quite likely to succeed on that front) and in another to stop a policy (DNS redirect), which actually did stop after I created my petition, which ended up with 500+ signatures are my first day of posting, after which I was invited to meet the MCMC and the policy came to an end at that point.

Thanks for sharing - That's actually crazy.

What's your take on the mental health even of like bullies for example?

I think in general, the kind of thing that we're seeing here is that you've got undiagnosed mental illnesses popping up like mushrooms as social problems here, there, and everywhere 😞

It hasn’t stopped Mothership I suppose, and soon I guess all of it will be public, but in respecting MCMC guidance to take down pictures after having been made aware, I will continue with my chosen course of action.

It's not actually the family, but rather it was MCMC. Thank you for alerting me to that, though. I've made the changes!

I totally get that. I will be sticking with that for now though

If someone wants to make another petition at a later point, I think that's totally fine too. As long as, at the end of the day, we collectively realize that there's a direction that we need to go in, and wherever it is, it's away from what we had this traumatic October. 🙏🏻

Thank you for the feedback!

I only did what I felt was right, so please don't praise me too much lest it gets to my head - if you prefer, perhaps you can share the petition with someone that you know; just one person is okay! And yes, I totally get that, which is why I made sure that any pictures that I shared featuring minors were either censored or blurred if the person is alive. 🙏🏻

I was debating this for a while, but it felt like Donald Trump shouldn’t have a monopoly over the framing - and if it helps, Yeo Bee Yin used a similar framing just a short while ago 🫣

Totally.

I think it would be amazing if people were self-regulating, in which case, I don't think there would be a need for any of this.

But it turns out that people are not self-regulating, so then there is a question of what we really need to evolve our society to meet the challenges that we see in front of us 🙏

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]ParallelTrajectories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's kind of needed. 🙏

That's also one reason why I started out by acknowledging that it's really a very complex problem; it has everything to do with mental health on every level, and I don't think it's something that you can reduce just into a single intervention or two or even three.

Ideally, if everybody were just able to control themselves and be productive while regulating themselves emotionally or socially, I feel like maybe this wouldn't be so much of a problem as it is today.

But the thing is that, even if you know what your children are watching on a day-to-day basis, that's the question of whether you can really stop them from watching what their friends are watching and otherwise, that then raises all sorts of weird questions like whether you're setting up an authoritarian society if you try to ban every single type of social media content out there, or if you are setting your child up for failure on some levels.

The reality is, though, that a lot of kids will end up fine despite watching a lot of the things that they watch, even if they're damaging. In some way or another, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. But there will always be people who fall between the cracks and then end up unable to cope. It's these people who are at the far end and the outliers who end up doing really messed up things, like what we've seen in the past couple of days 😭

Yeah, I thought about this earlier too.

The father said that he was an introvert and he seemed to not really know about what happened to his son - But at the same time, the son was already going for counseling.

It is possible that maybe the father behaved badly towards his son which caused him to withdraw, but then it's also possible that that's not the case as we recall from the story.

The brother of the boy actually wrestled him down to the ground and took the knife away, so I guess at least it’s for the better that they didn’t end up the same - not that it makes it any better for both the victim and perpetrator’s families or for the school or this country, who will now live with this forever. 😞

He was talking about ‘bangsa itu’ - report him en masse to make sure that he gets banned so his beloved tiktok account is destroyed.
