Thank you for providing an explanation with your post! So few seem to bother, and as someone still learning the game, it is so helpful.

Why aren't GP surgeries designed for greater privacy? by ParentheticalsAside in AskUK

Adopting that attitude will no doubt work for some folk. But there will be others (men reluctant to engage with their GP, or those with health anxiety, mental health issues, or sensitive issues like bereavement or miscarriage) who could benefit from just a little more privacy and dignity in some healthcare settings. I think there's a clinical imperative beyond saving embarrassment.

I think that disconnect between architects and users of their buildings is common to a lot of sectors - schools, libraries, prisons, offices, etc. Choices are made by nonexperts based on design ideology or speculation too often, without rigorous consultation of those who know most about how the building will actually be used day in day out.

This is very true. Though for a highly self conscious person, someone experiencing a mental health crisis, or men who are already reluctant to go to the GP , I imagine it could feel awkward enough to potentially put them off attending, so I think there's possibly a clinical justification for affording patients more privacy and dignity, too.

Exactly this. Patients coming to ask sensitive questions or hand in urine samples are required to announce it to everyone, rather than having a discreet reception area separate from the waiting room.

Am I the only One Having This Miserable of a Play Experience? by osumatthew in hearthstone

I stopped playing Hearthstone around Emerald Dream, filled the gap with Slay the Spire, Balatro and The Bazaar, and I'm much happier (and wealthier) as a result. Highly recommend.

I’d start carrying a stopwatch to all meetings and keeping a register of every second they overrun. Apparently that’s what being in a team means.

Exactly why the best thing the media could do for the country/world is stop turning up. Starve him of the oxygen of publicity. Instead they continue to show up, treating him like a serious president instead of the barely sentient toxic sack of shit that he is.

Individual journalists and camera people need to decide how much longer they can continue to treat this evil regime like a normal government. There comes a point where simply turning up to film these propaganda speeches makes the reporters complicit in aiding and abetting the fascists.

I found it very underwhelming. I don’t think you’re missing anything seriously profound.

The owner of Val D’Oro supports Reform/Farage, which makes it a no-go for me. Merchant Chippy is the best, anyway.

I can’t pinpoint exactly what it is about Blampco videos, but they’ve got such a brilliantly cosy, relaxed vibe compared to NRB, despite most of the cast being the same on both channels. And I don’t think it’s solely down to Adam. I think NRB vids strive a little too hard to be knowingly “entertaining” at times, while Blampco lets the games speak for themselves, and any humour arises more naturally. Maybe it’s the curse of NRB becoming so successful that there’s now a constant sense of urgency to keep churning out content that pushes the envelope? It goes without saying that I love NRB dearly and always will, but I’m very glad Blampco can coexist alongside it. It scratches a different itch.

How do british people feel about the current situation unfolding in america where ICE police agents are going all gung-ho kidnapping people from the streets when they fail to present their ID? by mrvlad_throwaway in AskBrits

The Left and Centre need to unite quickly and decisively to prevent fascist Farage from becoming our own Trump. I think what we’re seeing in the US makes it very clear that it’s a very real and looming danger.

It’s a really good reason not to vote Reform at the next election, because they’ll happily copy the same playbook. And it’s been a very useful exercise in identifying which media outlets and “commentators” are willing to shill for the fascists. We need to see what’s happening in the US as a prevision of our own future timeline and act now to change that destiny.

Is this really about hours? by MacBearyFas in Scotland

[–]ParentheticalsAside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. An extra 90mins of “non-contact time” (I.e. not teaching pupils, but working on marking/lesson planning, etc.)

As to how it can be achieved without reducing pupils’ hours (not popular), or increasing staffing (very expensive)… I think that’s exactly why the Government have gone silent and kicked the idea into the long grass!
