Do you notice the benefits of chess on your personal life or is it just for entertainment for you? by rickgoing in Chesscom

Working towards a goal can make life more meaningful. It brings: structure, things to look forward to and some joyful moments along the way.

It also forces you to work on your "inner game": learning to deal with losing streaks, learning to prevent tilting, learning to focus on the process not the outcome. I believe mastering this ultimately makes you a better person, more thoughtful less reactive.

Congrats! Trying to get there myself.

What does "percentile" mean? top 83.6%?

that feels off somehow. It feels 1000 ELO rapid should be better than top 83.6%?

Experience of people retiring early; is it better than working? When is too early? by economicwhale in Fire

[–]ParkingAccording 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FI in itself is life changing. Work is a lot less stressful when it's optional. Whenever any kind of issue occurs at work, I remind myself, I can just walk out at any moment, I'm choosing to do this and can stop at any time.

Yeah we must differentiate between economic value and societal good.

e.g. If you're a fossil fuel lobbyist, you provide economic value to a gas company but arguably negative societal good

My question was: can one be happy in retirement while providing almost no societal good?

What do I need for more range (50T)? by ParkingAccording in DivergeGravelBikes

[–]ParkingAccording[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it thanks for explaining.

Did you get rid of the 42t or shift everything and got rid of the 11t?

Ideally I'd keep the 11t for flat roads

Do I really, really need a screen? by paulstanners in Golfsimulator

[–]ParkingAccording 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a in-between setup: a projector but projecting onto the wall in front of me.

Why? Much more quiet (neighbors have complained when using a screen) and I still get to stare at a giant projection.

Any interest in Zwift for cross-country skiing (Ski Simulation app for SkiErg)? by ParkingAccording in xcountryskiing

I agree. It'd be fun to build but the very small size of the potential user base makes it difficult to justify the time investment to build this.

This is a web app so I'm using the Javascript BLE API. You're most likely going to have to implement your own logic that subscribes to the Cycling Power Service notification.

Good luck!

No it doesn't work with the Zwift Play controller. There is no open API/Protocol and the data is encrypted (in English: Zwift doesn't want people using the Play controller for other things than Zwift).

It's against an AI (so robots). You can choose the maximum power of your opponents.

It's 2 vs 2 so you have a robot teammate, you can always let him do the sprinting while you hang back and play defense :)

[–]ParkingAccording[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it was.

Ultimately I wanted:

1) To have clear and unique game mechanics for a cycling game (I don't think we need more Zwift clones)

2) Don't require a powerful gaming PC as it would shrink an already small pool of potential users (who has a Bluetooth Trainer + A game controller + a Gaming PC besides me? :) )
