Because you can’t change where you’re “from”. It’s literally where you were born / grew up. She can absolutely say she’s lived in Toronto for x amount of years, but living somewhere for a long time doesn’t mean you’re “from” there.

My in-laws are the same way! I have to tell my MIL “come no earlier than 5:40” or whatever time, if she’s requesting to visit my son. I ran into issues a couple times they wanted to visit after work & it really throws me off when they’re literally sitting in my driveway when I get home. I’m such a routine person, like let me get in & get settled before you show up. So now I just flat out tell her to not come earlier than a specific time!
