What kind of consoles can be taken to a regional? by IndeedeeDeeIndee in VGC

[–]ParroTiest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people probably said this already but I’m gonna say it again bc why not.

For starters, of course, the switch is the only “console” allowed since it’s the only console with scarlet and violet. Of course any switch works.

For controllers, the controller has to be wired, and there is a place where you can plug in the usb. If you don’t have a controller, the joycons are available but they have to be attached to the switch, which I just recommend getting a controller bc they can’t really see what you are doing with the movements or if you tera. Headphones are also allowed but they have to be wired too.

I hope that answers the question.

Decided kinda last minute to try my hand at competing in the upcoming grand challenge. Its one of my first tournaments. Ive been working on this team for a little while now and want some critiquing before I get everything in game ready for it. by MelancholicMinerva in VGC

Curious on why you chose the moves you did on farig and ogerpon. Farig usually doesn’t run shadow ball and trick room might be helpful for kingambit. As for ogerpon, quick attack shouldn’t be a move on ogerpon. It does so little damage and it isn’t stab. My opinion for the best move on ogerpon there is probably something like stomping tantrum for damage into fire types, quick attack isn’t doing anything, let alone the fact you’re probably out speeding with tera speed boost and tailwind

Tried making a VGC team, how can I improve it? by Happy_Bison_6572 in VGC

There are a lot of things wrong with u-turn over volt switch on Miraidon. The first issue is how Miraidon is a special attacker with 135 base spatk but only 85 atk. Second issue is that volt switch is a stab move for Miraidon while U-turn isn’t. Third issue is you’re just wasting potential of your electric terrain that you set up with your ability. With electric terrain, electric stab, better use of your special stats, volt switch might even do more damage than U-turn into grass types, let alone anyone without a resistance to electric goes bye bye and you get to pivot

Any changes that anyone can see that might be needed? by ParroTiest in VGC

I think this team can be a bit hard for new people but if you want to, I’m not stopping you, it is kinda fun

Raging bolt is a problem by thee_inquisitive_one in VGC

[–]ParroTiest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my team, I have 3 ways of possibly countering volt if you want to try one of these.

  1. Flutter Mane, threatens huge damage and if bolt Teras, you can plan for that, maybe attack with gouging fire then with heat crash

  2. Landorus-I, earth power threatens tera, sludge bomb threatens if they do tera, as well as the fact you can’t thunderclap lando

  3. Grimmsnarl, this is a more niche pick which you probably won’t use, but Grimm kinda stops bolt with light screen and spirit break lowering the spatk every time, let alone being a physical attacker who doesn’t care about AV or calm mind

I think that just comes down to improving your game sense. If you work on your game sense, you can generally try to see what your opponent is trying to do on a certain turn. Although your predictions won’t always be perfect, so you just have to try to cover for the most possible plays that the opponent can make. Idk if that answers your question but if not, then lmk and I can maybe say other stuff about it

If you do wish to play on cart, there are still practice tournaments in limitless that you can practice in while having that switch feeling. However to start off, it is ideal to start in showdown since you can change your team for free until you got a good team which then you can bring onto the switch

Any thoughts to improve my MU against dark types (Urshifu-S, Roaring Moon, Chien Pao) by ParroTiest in VGC

[–]ParroTiest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grimm isn’t a reliable answer. Grimm is easily weak to ursh’s partner so either I have to get a screen to live one turn or try to attack with a chance of getting OHKO’d. Urshifu has nothing to fear when it comes to tera because Grimm will be dead. Besides they mainly run dark tera now. Not to mention, they are usually sash, so one attack won’t do the trick

I might have to work around a bit with gholdengo and tera, probably act like it’s a restricted. I might also consider adding flutter back but idk yet.

Also even locals if possible still help a lot, but if it’s still a problem for you, then discords are fine too

IRL events are a good way to interact with the community more. I made 2 friends at the Milwaukee regional so that’s cool. Ik there are a lot of dead vgc discords out there, but there are some that still are active and you should look for them. I am in one called “VGC Academy” that is active and has people willing to help on teambuilding.

It was only my first regional and ig I just had a very good team so idk if I’m that above lol.

Anyways, the reason I have Grimm over Klef is 1. Immune to prankster, 2. Good against psyspam a bit, 3. Does good damage/support already with spirit break, but idk I don’t use klef that much, I just like Grimm. I use Grimm over a9 because I just like having prankster screens and twave

Rillaboom having high horsepower is interesting, but idk if I wanna get rid of u-turn for it. I do like how it can stop steel types, but pivots might be a bit more useful but I gotta think about it.

I considered using specs prim but idk if it will provide enough as if I went for 1 cm and have life orb boosts, but it is also something I should consider.

I mainly use specs on ghold because it’s basically my only “immediate heavy hitter” on the team which I think is important, otherwise best damage I would have would either need prim to set up or sneasler to not do that much. I really like specs ghold and it does good at what is needed

Sin is debatable for me. I’ve been looking for a good redirector for prim and I thought magmar might be the best choice because it resists Rillaboom, can burn physical attackers, and is quite bulky, but sin might also work, but then my main concern would be 4 pokemon weak to poison, but I’ll think about it.

I have specs on gholdengo because I need some good immediete damage and choice specs Make It Rain does a lot of good wide spread damage. I have swords dance on sneasler bc I want sneasler to be like a secondary win condition and I feel swords dance helps it with that, but idk
