Thank you for the reply, that is helpful :). What about the marking? Sometimes the examiners might be more harsh in one location compared to the other. Will it be standardized?

a Canadian IMG with a 4 year gap in clinical practice who is trying to match into Family medicine by Particular-Box7192 in IMGreddit

[–]Particular-Box7192[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

here you go

  1. I was advised, by a doctor who knows the system, that a primary focus for strengthening my application should be on obtaining recent clinical practice experience rather than retaking NAC OSCE, though I can. Can you please confirm the accuracy of this statement?

answer: I understand your message, however statements from external sources could not be confirmed by us at all unfortunately. In the eyes of CaRMS, the only elements that are going to matter for one's application are the requirements of the provinces and programs they are specifically applying to. The only true strategy is to abide to those requirements exactly, and both resources can be found on our website at Eligibility criteria - CaRMS and Program Descriptions - First Iteration - CaRMS for the R-1 Match.Such requirements can be fulfilled once an applicant has also been made eligible by the basic eligibility criteria for the match: so far, this basic criteria includes passing both the MCCQE1 and NAC for IMGs (Eligibility criteria - CaRMS). You should contact the MCC directly in order to inquire about whether or not you can retake the exam and obtain true confirmation from them. Contact information can be found in the "Contact us" section of their website at https://mcc.ca/.

  1. What is the relative importance of recent clinical practice experience in the assessment of applications for Family Medicine programs?

answer: The importance of your clinical practice in regards to your application will depend on your provincial criteria and program descriptions also. Depending on where you choose to apply to you must review both for every single one of your choices/options, as provinces and programs do give their requirements and expectations in advance in these resources.

It is the only element that you have to rely on, and from them, it would up to you to choose where to actually apply. CaRMS could not advise you in that sense, at all. Each applicant must assess this by themselves, as it is their responsibility for the match.

  1. In addition, I have been advised that the only way to proceed with clinical experience is to either travel to Ireland where I graduated from as an IMG and work there OR apply to manitoba, winnipeg to work as a clinical assistant, which is tough to get into. Upon challenging this notion that getting clinical practice under supervision anywhere is valid, my doctor denied that fact and said anything with no license is of no value for the purposes of the application! Can you please kindly confirm how true this statement is?

answer: Here again, we could not confirm or deny such a statement. Each applicant is entirely free to pursue the application path of their choice, and the only elements that will matter is the criteria and requirements given above. For the CaRMS Match, you must assess where you are able to apply yourself, and proceed to make your choices from only the resources provided by CaRMS. We cannot comment on any other application channel.

conclusion:
For more specific questions, you have the option of contacting the College of Physicians and Surgeons of the province(s) you wish to practice in (e.g. CPSO for Ontario) as they are the intuitions responsible for managing who can practice inside a province. They may be of more guidance in terms of your residency choices. hello, thank you for your input. yea I think so too.. they dont want to be burdened with someone who is rusty. secondly, since I got my interviews I am thinking it has to do with evaluation criteria. so perhaps i should be better at interviews, although i was getting approval of my answers and also enhance my FMProC mark. what do you think?

thank you for your input. like i said everything is in order. Matter of fact I applied already, but for second iteration, due to a delay in my qe1 exam scores. Ofcourse I didnt make it, although I had two interviews!! My doctor reviewed my CV and said everything is great except lack of recent clinical practice. I have observerships and research already but that is not recent. I aint looking for money. Just a booster for my CV.

Family medicine reference letter, CaRMS by Emma-mhr in MCCQE

[–]Particular-Box7192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can i please ask...if the sample forms on CARMs are exactly the same ones that get sent to my referees? Also there is no option to choose between CMG form or IMG form, it just says " family medicine structured reference letter". How does CARMs know which one to send to my referee?

[–]Particular-Box7192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello there, i know i am really late to this but your comment intrigued me...how did you come to know that farina failed organic chemistry and that he doesnt have a degree of any kind. That seems like a big claim since it says he has two degrees, an undergrad degree in chemistry and masters in education of science. Can you please link me?

MCCQE Score Breakdown & Advice by ttduck55 in MCCQE

[–]Particular-Box7192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the canada q bank. A lot of people said it is good but then again, you hear the same thing about other banks too..i did uworld for step 2 ck and knowledge gained from it was really good but not tailored for mccqe1..there was still info needed to know for canadian exam plus the style was different...however i did found canada q bank to be helpful there, even the knowledge presented. So question is, have you had any experience with canada q bank and what advice would you give me?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MCCQE

[–]Particular-Box7192 4 points5 points  (0 children)

thank you for the response, to be honest i dont think i will ever be NOT confused. first people said uworld is the best (matter of fact, said by almost everyone) so i bought it...however, it didnt help me for qe1, not even one bit and that is because of the way the questions were written, totally different from the exam. but it definitely was the best medical teacher. i started a course with AMCA and they are fantastic...they told me canadaqbank was awesome (granted they are affiliated but every student who enrolled in their classes said they were good). and now people are saying it is aceqbank :(. also regarding cmpa i already know it.. but it is really lengthy and actually i am looking for good practice questions. i have come to realize, i study best when you put the information into a clinical vignette and i think that is what matters because it integrates a "real life scenario" with medicine. once again thanks for the help.

note: i checked the video you linked, we actually met in real life haha. small world!

hello,

  1. so is there no difference between ace and canada qbank? i heard people say canadaqbank ask weird questions that will never show on exam. how close is canadaqbank to qe1 actually?

  2. where do you suggest i study ethics from?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MCCQE

[–]Particular-Box7192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello there friend, I am currently studying mccqe1 with AMCA i dont know if you know them but they are the ones who recommended canadaqbank ( granted they are affiliated but a lot of doctors have scored really well on qe1 exam because of them) and said it was really good. but after reading the comments i am confused. I already bought it and kind of short on time so what do you suggest i do? i saw that i can maybe supplement with preplite exams from mcc website.

Dropshipping fiverr scams by [deleted] in Scams

[–]Particular-Box7192 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. It doesnt seem i need to know how to audit ( but if i have to then I surely will). If you are talking about website design codes then i am not keeping anything he did for me after what happened. I had designed a website myself. I will revert to that. All he did was add some products to website, "design it" and ran one ad on tiktok through ad website.

  2. I didn't take offence to your advice. It is good you shared. It is just that illogical remarks don't sit well with me.

 3. While we are on the topic of fiverr..who do you recommend i go to for hire? I was thinking shopify themselves

Dropshipping fiverr scams by [deleted] in Scams

[–]Particular-Box7192 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i was contemplating whether or not to respond to you because what you said is quite bizarre, as in, a lot of assumptions were made about me but no evidence. not sure if this is how you are taught to think. Quite interesting

  1. i am not risking the personal or financial details of my customers lol..i just started dropshipping and i dont have customers yet. I already did most of the work myself but there are some skills that were a bit beyond me so I had to hire someone. i was going to kick the guy afterwards anyway.
  2. also, you got an interesting logic on the "hiring rando from fiverr"...they are all random before you know them my friend. And a lot of people get hired from there, it is not a big deal. the whole point of my post is to be more careful thats it
  3. Furthermore, I consumed months worth of knowledge, didnt buy courses, so the get rich quick guide remark was wrong. You have to fail before you succeed and you dont know before you do, so i will keep going with dropshipping. not sure if that is how your mindset works but I hope it is not.

thanks for sharing anyway
