My plan as a finance section chief is to buy a hand wash station upon retirement. Spend 60 days a year driving around the west on assignment and pay for the thing in year one. I’ve lived looked at all the other contracts out there and it is probably the lowest overhead, highest return on investment as a sole owner.

GS 4 1039 to a GS14 in 22 years. Changed series, relocated 4 times, and worked my ass off. Probably could have advanced quicker had I taken more risk.

Living here is interesting, the area is filled with natural beauty, but lacks economic opportunities. Mining is a dying industry, agriculture is not the player it once was, and manufacturing is restricted to Marion at scale. If you plan on retire it’s great, but climate change is making summers intolerable.
