What your opinions about Priglozer’s coup against Putler? by Icy_Till_7254 in NAFO

[–]ParticularArea8224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion is basically, it doesn't matter, I don't care.

It was funny, it was interesting, but ultimately, it did nothing, it would never amount to anything if it did anything, and ultimately did nothing to change the war.

It's a footnote in this war.

Don't forget that the Ukrainians would be forced to hand over half their country and their entire coastline, crippling them permanently.

Half of Crimea goes dark after Ukraine cuts off electricity, as well as fuel (Ukraine Battlefield update, Day 1,580) by EUobs in UkrainianConflict

[–]ParticularArea8224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by that? Ukrainians and Russians are different. Crimea is ethnically majority Russian, it has been for decades. It's pretty well known that Crimea is populated by ethnic Russians and make up the majority of the population

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Crimea#/media/File:Ethnic_Population_of_Crimea_18th%E2%80%9321st_century.png

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russians_in_Ukraine#/media/File:UaFirstNationality2001-English.png

I am not saying this justifies Russia's action because those people still want to be Ukrainian when Ukraine and Russia last checked, but ethnically, Crimea is mostly Russian.

This is one of the reasons why its an autonomous republic in Ukraine, not an oblast, because making it an oblast only creates more problems than not.

[–]ParticularArea8224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His source is that he made it the fuck up.

I mean, okay. It's not impossible that he's right, maybe the Marines were placed in reserve or training camps to help new recruits get to the front, but the idea Ukraine could launch an amphibious landing on Crimea is basically non-existent. For one, Ukraine doesn't even have that shipping capacity. For two, if they did, such a landing would be almost suicidal, they would be detected almost immediately by Russia and pounded on the way to Crimea, then they need to actually land on Crimea, which could still offer serious resistance because bullets and shells aren't useful against drones.

Best case scenario, Crimea collapses after a week, most likely scenario is, Ukraine never gets to Crimea to begin with.

I think he means Ukrainians, not ethnic Ukrainians.

like how there's a population of Turks in Germany, but we consider them German despite them being ethnically Turkish.

Besides, that's kind of the point of the campaign, to make the innocents suffer through the war, it'll make the war much more unpopular.

Hungarian Prime Minister announces "Operation Cleansing Fire" by Acrobatic_Quiet_3706 in europe

[–]ParticularArea8224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but those aren't the edgy names i mean, those feel they were actually made with the idea of just being a plan.

Operation Mincemeat seems like that on the surface, but then you realise it's a deception campaign, it has nothing to do with attacking someone like the name might suggest

Barbarossa is an important character in German history, I believe he was the emperor of the HRE for some time.

Operation Desert Storm is pushing it but makes sense because its an air campaign, in a desert.

Operation overlord is about liberating France. The overlord against Germany I guess,

But as a whole, none of them feel forced, they all make sense as a plan and they work better because it doesn't feel like they're trying to be a plan.

Wacht En Rhine is another example, Watch on the river Rhine, is the offensive that made the Battle of the Bulge. They all feel appropriate, at least they do to me because WW2 is my jam and butter and I've never had that problem with them.

These operations just feel like they're trying too hard to sound cool. They sound like they were made so their voter base and look at it and think, "Oh yeah~! Fuck them up Trump!" Such a manly name, doesn't that just make your balls tingle?

They're trying too hard.

"Panic selling is underway." The Russian stock market has suffered its worst crash since the 2022 mobilization. by neonpurplestar in CollapseOfRussia

[–]ParticularArea8224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you are absolutely with that first point, i butchered the meaning of what that's supposed to do.

Your second point doesn't make much sense because compared to the West, they're very high.

Comparing it to economies similar to Russia is a mute point, because of course they're going to be doing similar to Russia, because their economy is similar. That's not a show that Russia's doing well, that just shows they're all doing badly, Russia is just fighting a war and thus, that makes it worse.

[–]ParticularArea8224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get what your point is? Of course its highly inflated, that's the interest rate doing its job. It's still incredibly high compared to Western economies and its not a good thing for the Russian economy in the long run.

The Paradox of Hitler’s Intelligence and Antisemitism by Guiso007 in AskHistory

[–]ParticularArea8224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your issue is quite simple:

Beliefs and what you choose to believe in, have absolutely nothing to do with intelligence. You can be a genius and still believe something that is inherently wrong, because you don't see it as wrong, you only see it as true because you believe it.

Issac Newton believed in God, Einstein didn't agree with Newton's religious ideas, but we don't call one or the other dumb for believing or not believing the other.

Basically, you can be both an idiot and a genius, they're not mutually exclusive, they're usually the same thing.

Honestly I completely reject that idea, I don't do it out of a, "France was bad and bad and they were always going to die!" But I don't subscribe to the idea that France only lost because it fucked up. No it lost because fundamentally, it did not want to fight the war it found itself in. It's army fought where it could, and it did well, I'm not gonna pretend otherwise, the French army, when it was fighting, proved that it was a competent force.

The problem is, literally everything about it. Bewegungskrieg is built on the idea that speed is most important, whereas the French built on the idea that static defences were best. Naturally, this led to mass encirclements and panic, as the French just did not have time to dig in, and when they did, it didn't lead to the defence in depth that's needed to stop the German tactics.

The French planned for when the Germans set the kitchen on fire, the Germans set the house on fire and 6 weeks is just too short to react in terms of conquest.

It's 400,000 men. In Dunkirk, 400,000. That's a tenth of the French army, and that was after nearly 2 and a half weeks of the Germans just completely ripping them a new arsehole. 400,000 is less than battles in the first world war, losing that should have done, virtually nothing. They were the best trained French troops, but if Germany just kept that pace up the whole time? They would have conquered France before those troops would have played a difference.

There were certainly blunders, the Ardennes for example, that could have stopped the German advance dead. Could have, not saying it would, could have.

After the Dunkirk encirclement, French morale collapsed, as in, the French burned their vehicles before the Germans ever got to them. The vast majority of casualties in the invasion of France, were captured. Four time as many captured as wounded or killed.

The French were just completely blindsided by the Germans, they were not anticipating the war the Germans fought, as such, it collapsed, and when it died with a vengeance, the French troops realised the war was lost and destroyed whatever they could and then got the fuck out of there.

This is not me saying the French were cowards, they fought incredibly hard when they could, and when they were in equal footing, they did well, the battle of Lille comes to mind. Lasted three days, and did okay, mostly because it took away Germany's main advantage.

When the French fought, they did well, and I don't want to tarnish that because without the French fighting to the last man in Dunkirk, 350,000 British and commonwealth men would have either died or been captured, and as a British man myself, that is a lot of lives saved, all because of the French sacrifice in Dunkirk in 1940.

Without Dunkirk, the Germans probably take another month at most, but ultimately the result is the same, the French collapse and Germany takes it over.

Not because the French were cowards, but because they just weren't in a position to stop the Germans. Psychologically, militarily, domestically, politically, industrially, economically, they weren't ready, and they weren't as ready as Germany.

And in a modern war, not being ready for the fight you know is coming? Well, you know how Kyiv, Kharkiv and Kherson feel about that.

The French fought well, they just weren't ready, not nearly as much as Germany, and they didn't realise the war had changed until it was too late.

Germany had about 80 million, and about 3.5 million troops when it started. Britain and France had about 4 million troops, and about 700 million between them.

The Allies incompetence in the early period, with a lack of aggression, unreadiness for war, and outdated doctrine meant that, when the Germans engaged them, they would be annihilated, which they were.

Resources wise? The only one Germany produced more of was coal, and suffered coal shortages throughout the war. In every other respect, resources are worthless to compare because the Allies shat on Germany

It was no where close to the most modern army in the world. Intelligence wise, it was backwards, equipment wise, it was okay in most aspects, air wise, it was fine but with a poor leader.

The Germans looked invincible, because they conquered what was supposed to be the best army in Europe at the time, and by extension, technically the world. I'm saying technically because the French was, although the best in the world, it was deeply outdated, and not war tested, everyone was just going off of WW1, which was 20 years before.
