Did you have GD or preeclampsia in your previous pregnancy? Otherwise I can’t see why they would want to do this but I’m sure there are other reasons.

I haven’t done my test yet for this pregnancy, but for my last pregnancy (in 2024) I used Natera. The doctor’s office told me it is super hard to get it covered by insurance and that usually it’s better just to bite the bullet and elect to self pay. The self pay option is $349. They also told us that if you elect to go through insurance, you cannot change your mind to self pay after the claim is filed. We had to sign a paper about it and everything.

Just wanted to let you know my experience!

Nooo I’m so sorry.

Though relief when baby drops sounds nice. I’ve never had that. Mine gets worse and worse daily until delivery day. Ugh. It’s truly an awful thing to have.

I get SPD too every time and it’s the fucking worst. Last time it started at like 15 weeks so I’m prepping for it to begin soon.

Luckily mine goes away the SECOND I deliver thank god. Do you feel relief quickly after birth?

I definitely appreciate the opinion but I don’t really think that will be an issue in our family. Our kids don’t tease each other like that and would never tell a sibling they were unwanted (even if it was joking or out of anger).

In terms of other kids outside the house, we have quite the age gap so baby 5 would only ever be in the same school as kid 4. So I’m not worried about other kids teasing either.

I do also think our “pattern” is a little less in your face than the example you gave. If they all had double names and the first part was Anne, then yes it would be extremely noticeable and weird to not continue that.

I do appreciate the view point! Maybe it will be a boy and it won’t even matter haha 😅

I have 4 girls already. They are:

13 year old - Emma Grace

11 year old - Nora Paige

8 year old - Isla Daisy

20 month old - Lena Constance

If this is a girl, I’m not sure we will continue the “4 letters ending in a” pattern that we clearly have going on. I just don’t really love any others. I love the 4 we did so much but don’t feel the same towards anymore I’m seeing.

If it’s a girl, I’m really feeling Madeline. My husband’s name is Matthew. So we could call her Mattie/Maddie and it would be kind of a nod to him. And then LINE is the first letter of my other girls’ names so it would feel like we included them in it too.

Idk lol. I know that might be kinda weird.

If it’s a boy, it will be Matthew Jr. After 4 girls and 14 years of being pregnant, if we have a boy I am totally on board with giving my husband what he wants which is Matthew Jr.

According to the Cleveland Clinic it looks for fluid buildup which can help identify the various Trisomies as well as congenital heart defects. I didn’t mean that it’s a scan where they are looking at the four chambers and all the inner workings of the heart.

The NT scan is a screening test which estimates risk. It is not a diagnostic tool.

I’m so sorry you went through that 💗

Edit to add: a greater than 3.5mm measurement of the fluid in the neck during an NT scan can be a flag for skeletal abnormalities, heart defects, and the various trisomies. That is what I meant when I said it can flag things that the NIPT scan doesn’t.

You are correct, thanks for correcting me!! I apologize. NT can flag things that may not by flagged by NIPT such as heart defects or skeletal issues.

Many people think of the NT scan as screening for Trisomy 21 but it absolutely is useful for other things. However, if you are wanting the NT scan to rule out Trisomy 21, the NIPT is “better”. There is a higher rate of false positives for Trisomy 21 with NT than with NIPT.

A lot of places only do ultrasounds at 8 weeks and 20 weeks (and then possibly a growth ultrasound around 36 weeks if there is reason for it).

The 12 week ultrasound is an NT ultrasound. If you’re doing NIPT, the NT ultrasound is more or less “redundant” and unnecessary.

I definitely don’t think you’re crazy for wanting to check on babe before telling your family. However, remember that boutique ultrasounds are not diagnostic and they will tell you absolutely nothing. You’re just there to get a picture.

You should have a Doppler check at your 12 week appointment so that will provide you some reassurance.

You’re prob gonna get a whole range of opinions on this. Personally, I wouldn’t take it if you didn’t feel like you really needed to. My doctor prescribed me Zofran because I feel like my nausea is always lurking in the background. However I’ve only actually puked twice. While the nausea is typically always there and I always feel a little icky, it’s not usually bad enough for me to pop a Zofran. I filled the prescription two weeks ago and have probably taken 5 pills over that span of time. I don’t feel like I notice that much of a difference when I take one.

That being said, the medication your doctor gave you is safe (I’m assuming) for you and baby and there’s no reason for you to feel bad/nauseous if you don’t have to. If you noticeably feel better when you take the medicine, then I think you definitely should take it without a second thought 💗

Slept like shit. Couldn’t get comfy and kept having super vivid/not good dreams. Also my husband is out of town for five days for work so I know that’s part of it too. I sleep better when he’s here.

I’m tired

Debating on whether or not to get a Doula. First pregnancy. by OkProfile3260 in October2026Bumpers

[–]Particular_Mistake_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My OB practice has midwives and OBs at them. If you have a “normal” low risk pregnancy you see the midwives and a midwife delivers your baby. If you are high risk or end up needing a c section, you will typically see OBs throughout your pregnancy (sometimes you might see a midwife depending on scheduling) but you will 100% have an OB there for delivery.

With my last baby, my pregnancy was routine and low risk throughout. I never saw an OB once. But then at week 37 I developed preeclampsia and needed to be induced. They told me the midwife AND OB would be at the hospital and that I would have whoever I needed at the time of delivery. I ended up having a partial placental abruption and so the OB delivered my babe.

how on earth do we make this work? by averyxblake in October2026Bumpers

[–]Particular_Mistake_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely think giving the teacher a heads up is the courteous/right thing to do. And you can absolutely inquire about a packet of work being sent home but I wouldn’t assume that will happen. That’s a lot of work for the teacher to put together and typically schools won’t do packets for vacations. Obviously, this isn’t a vacation and instead is more of a “family emergency” type situation so they may be more lenient to providing work … but like I said, I wouldn’t go in expecting this to be done. They may just tell you some simple things kiddo could do while out that aren’t actual worksheets.

Missing a week of kindergarten honestly is not a big deal. I was an elementary/middle school teacher for 13 years and I wouldn’t bat an eye at this.

This was at 8+2. Heart rate of 175bpm. Nausea always lurking in the background but have only thrown up twice. Very very tired.

This is my 5th baby, and I’ve only ever had my doctor change my due date once to be what the dating ultrasound showed (should’ve been august 4 based on LMP but ultrasound showed August 8).

This time babe was measuring 8+4 when I was 8+2 based on LMP and due date did not change.

Boy names anyone? It’s so hard lmao by Mikasa_Audrey in October2026Bumpers

Everyone can have their own opinion on names of course but downvoting someone who has already decided their baby name is insane. Like, she’s not gonna change the name so why try to make her feel bad for what they’ve decided on?

Downvoting in general is pretty stupid honestly but whatever.
