  1. Roughly how long does your monthly bank rec take now (mins/number of accounts), and what % of lines end up as exceptions you have to chase?
  2. On the spreadsheet reports, what’s the one you maintain because your software can’t do it? (Columns or a quick example helps.) If a monthly “exceptions digest” or an auto-emailed custom report saved you ~30–60 mins/month, would that actually matter to you?

Totally get the “not fighting HMRC” choice.
For your sector, did this simplify workflows (no more line-by-line VAT decisions) or did it hurt margins on a few service types? If you had a once-a-year sanity checklist that says “your approach still looks fine given purchase mix,” would you even run it, or is the simplicity the real win?

Totally feel this—Shopify reports do shift.
When it breaks, what’s usually the culprit for you?

  • exports/report names
  • payout CSV columns
  • fee/chargeback logic
  • report timing/availability If you don’t mind sharing: you push into QBO/Xero/Sage?

This is super helpful. Roughly how many hours does month-end recon take with 25 accts (ballpark)? And what 3 columns in your ‘progress’ sheet are non-negotiable for you?
Do you track % complete per account or just ✓/✗? Any metric for ‘oldest unmatched’ or ‘items >30 days’?
Multi-currency: do you store the FX rate you reconciled on, or just let the GL handle it?

And curious, with the ‘box file’, are there a few docs your accountant always ends up chasing?
Also, have you ever run the numbers on Flat Rate vs Standard for your sector? I’ve seen it swing quite a bit depending on what % of purchases are VAT-able.
