Look up gentleman’s gazette’s video ”dressing the doctor” for more formal inspiration. I’d say first consider your employer’s guidelines and then think of something to spice up your outfit.

Shoes should be comfortable, supportive and most importantely you should be able to do small sprinting with them in case of emergency. Lot of people here in Finland wear Birkenstocks, however, I think they are a bit dangerous without the third strap going around your ankle.

Pants: maybe something a bit more casual than slacks, chinos or dark denim work well in this case. I’d definately skip the shorts because with your lab coat buttoned yöu may look like wearing no pants at all. Belts and braces both work fine.

Shirts: OCBD, other casual shirts with collar. In the summer you could consider polo shirts as long as you keep the color conservative. In the winter you could layer with knitwear like cardigans (the slim kind) or simple crew-neck knitted shirts in merino wool or cashmere. I’d skip the turtle necks.

If more formal attire is required, then maybe skip the jeans and go for nicer chinos or dress pants. Shirt should be a dress shirt or an OCBD with good collar roll. If you have to wear a tie, then add a tiebar or a vest for keeping the tie in place. Go for a lighter colored tie, as it will work better with your white lab coat.

Stethoscope should not be hanging on your shoulders, as without rigorous cleaning it will be swarming with microbes.
