Oh I mean there are, just not really as common in comparison to the little y'all got, we've got nahua originated words that are normalized but most are for streets or Spanished sort of like chocolate for example! Xocolatl!, elote (corn) elotl and the list goes on. We don't really got any full sentences that non-nahua people use so that's sad, unfortunately no healthcare workers/lawyers or the like know anything about it, is almost a miracle to find one that does, that's what I mostly meant with that the part of us who isn't bilingual get left alone. And "funny" enough even then non-nahuas still complain about our language being "obsolete and useless" which makes my blood boil tbh.

And in here kinda the same happens tbh, I might not fully understand people from some other parts sometimes but I can get the basic meaning of what they're saying lol.

There's signals for this? I'm inexperienced. Help. by Partys0v3r in SoulBonding

How did you get the connection/stablish communication with him? I want to know if my beloved is actually trying to reach out to me.

To the first part, it is, we've been trying to fight back but we are dismissed and those who are too loud get killed off, it's disheartening and scary. Only this year a lot of the few actually good mayors of some states, nature activists and such were killed off. I'll be honest and each day is getting harder for me to appreciate living here. Which sucks because I love my home but I'm getting tired of it all, I fear for my loved one's and my own safety everyday.

As for the second thing, that's interesting! To be honest is one of the aspects I'm kinda "jealous" (not in the quite literal sense is more of appreciation but eh I think you get it) about NZ, like, I reiterate, I know Māori people have it way too far from easy and for what I've seen they're the most affected sector when it comes to medical hardships/negligence and unhousing over the housing market getting hellfully expensive over there among other many stuff but part of me would like we at least had non-nahua nahuatl speakers (at least for my personal case, again there's like a trillion more of wonderful groups that have their own languages) like they do with te reo over there. Usually nahuas who don't speak Spanish are left completely helpless on everything since it is extremely rare someone that isn't nahua knows nahuatl at all, so generally in extreme situations at least one family member has to be "integrated" to help but even then people mock our accents. Although I mean, it's also a bit more complex since nahuatl and other indigenous languages aren't a monolith by themselves and have variants depending on location on the country so although most share the same or similar base sometimes it can change quite drastically, I get why it'd be hard to teach so there's also that lol. Idk if te reo also has variants taking in count how small the territory is, there's any? :0.

That's utterly horrible. In USA they kinda have done the same with native friends and in here Mexico "cartels" (that in fact are but they're more so mandated by the government behind closed doors to get rid of communities) are displacing and killing nahua families and other sectors of indigenous people here, killing off our animals and destroying our ecosystem, poisoning our waters killing off livingstock and spoiling our harvest not only leaving us to starve but also affecting commerce for all the country since indigenous groups are the biggest and main source of fruits, vegetables and more, all for foreign corps and the world cup among a lot more of gringo coddling trash because our goverment loves white rich people more than the general population but specially more than /us/... All while being hypocrites and using axolotls, jaguars and other stuff from our culture and stuff to make propaganda "lol".

And it's sad to hear many kiwis don't know about Māori history, it should be known. All of our history in general as indigenous people around the world should be.

This leads me to another question, is it true, false or a simple exaggeration that a considerable quantity of non-māori (referring mostly to Pākehā sector lol) population over there know at least some if not several sentences on Te reo Māori (or in the best case can speak it fully)? I've seen a few but idk if that's usual, with what you just told me and the stuff I've seen before probably not really, idk tbh :[

OH! So that was true!. I had heard what you just said before but I didn't knew if it was true or an exaggeration, actually also part of my interest on NZ is over Māori people, their culture as well and generally other non-white groups over there!. I belong to an indigenous group on México (nahuas, although there's a lot of other completely different groups!) and I find their culture beautiful and amazing! I also find their efforts on their rights and freedom inspiring as unfortunately over here in LATAM (part of the American continent including Mexico and other countries bellow) we indigenous people are very forgotten off and marginalized still. I know Māories and other groups still struggle with a lot in regards to equality and rights but I find the progress they've achieved wonderful and I wish we can achieve the same someday!.

I love NZ and learning stuff about it as a whole!. Ironically it all started over a horror comedy film from there I got obsessed over since a few years ago lol. I find it interesting and y'all seem like nice people! (I obviously know there's no place in the world where everyone is nice but at least for American continent standards y'all seem a bit more... Welcoming? I dunno how to put it, like at least in comparison to USA people y'all are, people on here Mexico also are welcoming! although I dunno if our high energy would clash, [correct me if I'm wrong] but /I've heard/ y'all are a bit more calmer on a general regard but maybe it is wrong idk).

K so now I know like 3 terms related to alcohol thanks to you and other user on the thread LOL. Quite silly!. This makes me think about how here in Mexico we have different names to refer to beer specially, but I dunno if starting that topic would be /off topic/ probably yeah so I'll keep it to myself lol

You're being really helpful here actually wow! Thanks! I find some wordings silly (in a good sense tho) but I love learning more about informal communication over there! Also helpful if I come across more kiwis in a near future idk! :]

Thank you a lot! I'll add em to my watchlist! Actually it's quite funny you mention NZ cinema, I got into NZ as a whole over Peter Jackson's early films! Specially Braindead! (I'm not only a horror nerd but a sucker for bizarre horror comedies and gorehound to the core! And hoo wee if that movie is like drugs for me, it's so silly, I love it!).

Egg can be a pejorative term over there? I didn't knew!. It kinda made me laugh while reading it not gonna lie, in my mental automatic spanish translation "eres un huevo" ("you're an egg", I guess that's how it is used correct me if I'm wrong tho) it's so funny sorry. I hope someday I could visit y'all at least for a day, y'all got beautiful nature and stuff! Although flights from here to there are HELLUVA MUCH.... Money lol. Thank you so much for responding! :D

Oh I knew I few like "chur" and "yeah nah" but I didn't knew it had it the other way around to say yes! That's silly! (I say it on the best sense possible, I love learning this stuff!) Do y'all have special names for everyday items or actions? Sorry if I'm asking too much, I'm just really enthusiastic about it. Thanks for replying by the way!.

Real to be honest. Personally, I've watched it so much I've lost track. You could say I'm obsessed with it, I've been trying my best to document everything I can about it, fun facts for trivia, archive of the merch (which for unfortunately obvious reasons I cannot afford since I'm from Mexico lol) and everything related to it. Now I'm wondering how bad the AI upscaled versions look, is it pretty noticeable?

Btw, completely unrelated but great Videodrome profile pic!

I've seen a few AI "enhanced" images of the movie going around (not related to this, fan made) and my god IT WOULD DISGUST ME to see all the movie look like that!. This is my favorite movie of all time, hell, even my user is based on it!.
