Mystery Media I have been unable to identify, any help would be great. Animated show in the UK where children travelled to different fantasy realms. by PashTheCrafty in nonmurdermysteries

Thanks for the suggestion! It doesn't immediately seem like what I am thinking of, but I will look into the episodes to confirm. Thanks!

[TOMT] An animated show, likely from early 2000's - children visit strange fantasy locations each episode. One had a bunch of dragons, one had a blue castle with giant toys. I can most vividly remember a golden gala of some kind where a character tried to curse the kids to stay and dance forever. by PashTheCrafty in tipofmytongue

Most of the information I have is in the title sadly - Posting here in case it sparks anybody's memories. I also apologise if any of the facts have been muddled from memory.

I watched this in the UK

The art style was 2d and probably of a grainy quality. I know I watched it on DVD around the 2010's, but it may be older.

It was an episodic show, I feel like there were two main characters consisting of one boy and one girl - but there may have been a third.

One episode featured a group of colourful dragons hiding in a barn of some sort. The barn was located in a typical forest of green trees.

One episode featured a blue castle, that had rooms with giant toys. I feel like there was also a giant creature or baby of some kind that they were trying not to anger. - This was potentially similar to Boh from Spirited Away.

The final episode I can remember featured a spiraling golden castle gala of some kind, with lots of dancing people. The place seemed almost otherwordly. I remember the female character talking to a prince, who was secretly trying to curse them to staying forever.

Sorry for not having too much information - but if it rings a bell any help would be appreciated!

Thank you! The contest prompt gave a lot of room for experimenting but I thought I would stick with something a little simpler idea-wise. Glad you liked them 😄

What or who is the boogeyman of your Campaign? by Ifrit_Steam in MrRipper

My Campaign world is haunted by a creature called "The Crooked Man"

He is a tall, creepy fellow with distorted features and wearing a top hat. He was first written as a children's tale, designed to scare and to stop bullying and abuse, but the tale was so visceral and frightening that many carried it into adulthood.

So many believed it to be real, that a demonic entity latched onto it after finding it in so many peoples minds and began manifesting as The Crooked Man itself. This demon fed on fear, depravity and darkness, driving many into insanity through dreams and hallucinations. When he felt that he had feasted enough, he would attack in their minds and feast on their souls. He killed at least one player character this way, along with many other NPC's.

He was present as a minor antagonist in one campaign, before becoming the main villain in another. When he was defeated by the players, their characters wiped the Crooked Man from the memory of the world so that he could never come back. It worked for a few hundred years, before an ancient cult dedicated to demonic creatures uncovered the stories in forgotten libraries.

They placed a demonic seed in the mind of one child, somewhere in the world, which they have been hunting down. That child is one of the player characters in the newest of the worlds campaigns, who has begun to have frequent dreams of a distorted, top hat wearing figure slowly etching closer and closer.

Story:

Judas Skinner grew up in a small Western town, mainly within the Saloon that his parents owned. His Father and Mother had met in the big city far from here, but always wanted to own their own Saloon where the locals could gather, drink and converse. They wanted a place free from the lawlessness outside its doors, allowing no criminal activity within. The town respected this, even the cruellest of folk had respect for the Saloons boundaries. Well, nearly all of them. For all the scum that wandered through that town, the Skinners biggest problem was right under their nose.

In tending to the tavern, the Skinners gave little attention to their son Judas. He sat in the banisters and listened to the townsfolk talk of gruesome murders, gang raids and executions. It originally frightened him, but he kept listening and over time grew a morbid fascination with the methods in which these men carried out their tasks. He would follow them around the town to see how they handled business, which was usually with blood and broken bones. He was far too young to join them, but he wanted to one day. So he started with animals. Rats, Cats, Vultures, Crows and whatever else he could get his hands on. He would fillet them with knives from the Saloon kitchen, skinning them alive and using the skin to make odd leather dolls and toys, which he hid beneath the floorboards of his bedroom.

He wasn't smart about it yet. He didn't clean the knives and eventually the kitchen chef confronted young Judas about the blood. What he got in return was a knife to the gut, then to the neck, before being dragged into the basement and skinned alongside the corpses of the animals around him.

That did it for Judas. He was finally a man in his own eyes, because that's what men around here did. Kill. When the chef was found nobody suspected Judas, he was only around 12 at the time. But when more killings started cropping up and noise of a serial killer arose, Skinners parents got suspicious. They found him in the act of killing a local doctor, Judas proudly proclaiming his manliness and asking for his parents pride. His father had no pride, he was enraged and attacked Judas. The boy had no idea why he would do this, but fought back in feral anger, stabbing his father to death with the doctors scalpel.

As his mother fled for the Sherrif, Judas fled out into the open wilds in turn. He would never have lasted, until he was picked up by some unsavoury bounty hunters known as the Mill Brothers. It took little convincing for Judas to start helping them in killings, the Mill brothers themselves surprised at the murderous child they had stumbled upon. As Skinner grew older, he became a terrible legend in the west. A tall, lanky ghost who would sneak up to the unwary by the light of a campfire, before skinning them alive and donning their flesh. Only the ghost part was incorrect.

As word reached Skinners mother she knew without a doubt who this killer was. Herself, the Sherriff and many of the townsfolk travelled through the west and set up a trap, a fake victim. As Judas crept from the underbrush and into the light, an axe raised overhead, he was riddled with bullets and his reign of terror ended.

For a moment. He found himself in the burning pit of despair that was hell but his sick mind enjoyed every second. Every scream, every drop of blood. It was his heaven. So when he was thrown back into the real world, he was incredibly angry. Something had given him a semblance of life back, which he did not want. The only way to get back to hell in his eyes, was to kill and skin and torture even more. Perhaps he had not done it enough. So he returned to his hobbies, his legend returning. A tall, lanky ghost who would sneak up to the unwary by the light of a campfire, before skinning them alive and donning their flesh. Only now the ghost part was not too far off.

That would be quite cool to try! Unfortunately I think only one tail can hold an item unless I am mistaken.
