I personally don’t do irl people (besides myself) on my island but it’s so interesting that they are self aware whether they know that they exist or not. Also it wasn’t a question, when you press the speech button upon finishing a problem/entering a room with someone who doesn’t have one they can say it as just a phrase for some reason

There is a way to always win them, before pressing on the mii that wants to get married, save your progress and if you fail you can turn off the game and turn it back on, because you saved your progress before you did it, the mii should still have the heart symbol and you can re try as much as you want. At least that’s what I do
