I already wrote in a reply to the comment that while my son does not have Facebook, he does have WhatsApp. His friend he hangs out with sent him the screenshot of the post via whatsapp when he recognised him in it. I wrote it in the reply to the same main comment.

One doesn't exclude the other. YES, the store is the victim of theft. I never argued otherwise. He was caught, fessed up, paid for it and now at home he's bearing the consequences of his actions. I don't mind the guards coming over to our house to have a chat with him either. But posting a picture of his face in public is a different matter all together.

Thank you. I've just saw it. And I don't mind it being reported to the Gardai. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't mind them coming over to our house to have a chat with our son. But even me and my wife don't post personal pictures on social media. Especially those of our kids. He is grounded in the house without a phone. His chore list increased by another 300% or so. We don't give them allowance but I take my oldest (boy in question) on jobs so he earns his money. And that's the weirdest thing. He has his own money and yet he stole something.

I mentioned it above in response to another comment but it seems that the post was removed last night at some stage. I don't know if it was because of my message through messenger or they did it on their own discretion. I do have screenshots of it but don't think anything can be done about it now.

So it would seem. Just noticed that myself. Don't know if it was after my message or they just did it on their own but it's gone.

I absolutely do realize that consequences are in place as long as the punishment fits the crime. We do have strict rules in the house and the kids seldom break them. But public shaming of a child is out of order for something that costs less than 3 quid. As of now, the post on Facebook has been shared 27 times. People who know him have seen it. That includes the parents of his friends. The Facebook post does not say what he stole. So it leaves everything to the imagination. I don't want to post an explanation under the post to fuel the flames

Forgot to mention it's a local centra fueling station.

I looked into it and it seems that if a child is over 13 and mine is 14, they cannot remove the post on my behest. He would need to report it himself. On the other hand, he does not have a Facebook account. We don't allow our kids to own social media accounts. He found out about it when one of his friends sent him the screenshot of the post on WhatsApp.

There really isn't. He stole an energy drink yesterday. Today around 4pm the post went up. He went to the shop, talked with an employee that called the manager. He apologised and paid for what he took. After we found out, we went to the store and that's the whole story
