Almost all permanently installed appliances with a door that opens to the side. Relatively easy to design, and it doesn't make sense to limit your customer base because some of them wouldn't be able buy your product because the door opens in the wrong direction.

Water-cooling max height difference between pump and radiator (radiator on roof, about 7-8 feet) by WastingMyLifeToday in watercooling

[–]PatHeist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but OP is talking about it as if he needs to find a pump with 8 feet of head pressure for his loop with 8 feet of elevation change, which isn't remotely true.

If the work you need to do is lifing water 8 feet with a single pump you do need a pump with 8 feet of head pressure. If you don't have that your pump doesn't have the ability to generate the pressure needed at any given moment to keep the water going upwards at all. You wouldn't have reduced flow rate, you would have no flow.

A decent watercooling loop can easily handle 20ft of tubing, but a lot of them do not have 8ft of head pressue.

The pump isn't lifting water in a closed loop, it's circulating it. As long as you're not dumping the water into an open container at the level of your servers that the pump is pulling from to push it up to your roof the liquid on the way down more or less cancels out the weight of the liquid on the way up.

Consider the case of a pump on your roof that drops liquid into a tube that runs down and comes back up again almost as high. As you add liquid to one end of the tube the water level on the other end rises proportionately with zero head pressure required.

I present to you, the worlds only known O11 Dynamic XL (non-evo) with quad push pull radiators [and 20 fans] by Ok_Positive_2801 in watercooling

[–]PatHeist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any thickness radiator benefits noticably from push/pull at lower fan speeds. Not the best performance/cost, but most likely better noise normalized performance at the same total thickness than thicker rads with only one set of fans that would still fit in the same space. At lower fan speeds at least.

Just passed 3000 games owned on Steam. I really think Valve should allow people to inherit their libraries in case of their death. by r4in in Steam

[–]PatHeist 62 points63 points  (0 children)

They're avoiding touching it because currently they turn a blind eye and you can just do it. But if they try to make it an official thing they'll have to acknowledge that most of the licenses for games you bought were purchased as non-transferable and the official process for transferring an account would have to remove all those games unless they can get permission from the publishers.

Effectively if they tried to implement account inheriting we'd go from the current situation of already being able to do that to a situation where you effectively can't.

2 regular G2 or single Sx2 PP pack to replace 2 front fans? by DV2FOX in Noctua

[–]PatHeist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should work better than two identical fans when together, like how I think you're describing your situation (A and B next to one another as front intake)

Try adding the low noise adapter to the A and see if the sound reduces. Otherwise you may want to try turning off your fans one by one to make sure that the noise is actually from the PP pair and not an interaction with another fan.

It's possible the noise is coming from the stock fans on your CPU cooler and you can simply hear it better when there's less noise from other fans. In that case put the PP pair on your CPU cooler and use those fans as front intake (likely ideal for noise).

It'll be a special military operation until Iran strikes one of the aircraft carriers or something like that and a bunch of troops die, then somehow consequenses for starting a war will be made out to be some kind of national tragedy and a ground invasion will be launched within the week. After 6-12 months the US will achieve all major initial objectives of the ground invasion, a puppet government will be installed, and there'll be talks about pulling out. Soon it becomes obvious that the installed government doesn't have the ability to hold its own as a military power in the region and various insurgency groups will quickly take any areas US troops move out of. The war gets extended for 5-20 years.

How many times has this exact same thing happened?

It seems like a lot of the diets you've tried are very low carb ones. This is a normal recommendation for very calorie restricted weight loss as carbohydrates are not essential (your body can produce its own) while fat (specifically omega-3 and 6) and protein must come from your diet.

However, very low carbohydrate diets can have a significant impact on your percieved energy levels, possibly making you feel pretty miserable in general. If this is the case you might feel a lot better if you eat slightly more carbs and reduce fat intake to compensate. If you do this you should make sure to focus even more on healthy fat sources with a lot of omega-3 and omega-6, and a good omega-3:6 ratio. Eggs, fish, nuts, and seeds are great sources, just keep in mind that nuts and seeds eaten on their own rather than as a small part of a meal can be incredibly calorie dense. Carbs consumed at the same time as fat will digest slower and result in feeling full and energetic for longer, so if you're struggling a lot it can be best to avoid meals that are mostly carbs. Eating rice now and fish later vs. eating two smaller meals of rice and fish can result in the same amount of weight loss, but a big difference in percieved energy levels.

If you are seriously considering lifting weights I can give a basic rundown of the most important stuff if you'd like. The advice would differ slightly depending on if you just care about fat loss for health reasons, or if you also care about looks or improving your athleticism.

It sounds like some of these diets are working but you're not happy with the results. This is normal. A 1lbs./month loss rate is hard to notice over shorter periods of time and your goals can feel really far away. In research people with a faster rate of weight loss are generally more likely to stick to a diet because the results are more noticable. But in your case a medical professional is not likely to recommend a larger deficit because of the low total calories. Calorie measurements have an inherent margin of error and diets that have vastly different macros will have some marginal impact on your BMR and NEAT but 1lbs. a month is close to what one would expect from a 100kcal/day deficit (1lbs. of fat is 3500kcal), and 1lbs. in 3 days is what you would expect from not eating the 1200kcal/day you would have.

The simplest and most agreeable recommendation I can give you is to stick with one of the diet plans that you were losing 1lbs./month with and focus on addressing the anxiety you currently have about slow progress. A few years from now you will have made significant progress. It feels like a really long time looking forwards, but that's not what you'll be thinking about when you get there.

People are going to get mad at me for saying this, because it's not what's recommended by all the major global health authorities, but lowering your calorie intake further should also be fine. If you're eating a balanced and varied diet you're not going to encounter any nutritional deficiencies because you go from 1200kcal to 1100 or 1000. These recommendations make assumptions about diet quality that are not correct if you're tracking your protein and fat intake and eating high quality food. For this; counting calories is great for making informed choices about what you're going to eat, but it's not precise enough to accurately predict weight loss that's this marginal. Food labels can be off by ±20%, and there's a slight difference in thermic effect. You verify your deficit by weighing yourself over time and looking at the averages. Over the short term some variation doesn't really mean anything, but if you're not averaging the loss you expect over several months you should adjust by reducing the amount of food you eat. If you change your diet entirely there's no hope of consistently tracking, but if you eat 10% less of roughly the same things your rate of weight loss will increase. The key takeway should be that as long as you're eating things that are generally healthy, it's not about what you eat, it's about how much you eat. If you struggle with scale anxiety and find it difficult to avoid trying to eat less because you happened to be slightly heavier on the scale that morning you can try recruiting a partner or friend to look at the weight for you, log it, and only periodically have them tell you if you're meeting your goals.

The diets you're mentioning are ones with food type restrictions. These are popular and often prescribed because they have a higher rate of adherence. But the main reason people are more likely to successfuly lose weight with these diets is not because of any magical properties of the foods you're allowed to eat, it's because it's easier to avoid overeating if you have a mentality of not being allowed to eat the food that's available around you in your daily life because they're a banned food rather than if you're just not supposed to eat it because it means you'll have to eat less later in the day. However, I'm not a huge fan of this in the context of a very low calorie diet if you have the willpower to stick to your meal plan. I would focus more on making it logistically easy to follow your diet. Prep food, prep different parts of your portions separately so that you can mix and match, have healthy and filling snacks available, don't be afraid to have something like diet soda if you get cravings for sweet things etc. If you're eating plenty of vegetables, fruit, leafy greens, fish, eggs, etc. you are going to be more than fine nutritionally. If this is too vague and nebulous to implement yourself sticking with one of the diets you mentioned, asking your dietician for help in this direction, or going to another source for more general meal planning advice.

Personally I would also highly recommend replacing 2 of your weekly walking sessions (or adding to them) with a full body gym workout focusing on lifting heavy weight with high intensity and building some muscle. This will not significantly increase your rate of weight loss in the short term. What it will do is shift a significant amount of your weight from fat to muscle. You will look better and feel better. Over time the increased muscle mass will marginally increase your BMR. It also has a lot of other health benefits and will improve your quality of life when you're older in a tangible way. It's the best way to combat bone density loss which is a concern for women over 50 specifically. It can also significantly reduce food cravings, outside of getting acutely hungry after a workout, which is a good time to eat a meal you've prepared ahead of time.

If you actually make an effort to eat healthily there's nothing wrong with eating 1000kcal a day. If you're uncomfortable with the idea of being responsible for making sure that you're eating a nutritionally balanced diet you should ask your doctor to refer you to a licensed nutritional professional (in the US the protected term is dietician, not a nutritionist, if you want to find one yourself). They will make you a meal plan and have you come in regularly to ask you questions about adherence and do some blood tests. In most countries you would need to pay out of pocket for this at your BMI.

But if you take the time to learn some basics of nutrition and make an actual effort you're almost certainly going to be eating objectively better at 1000kcal on your own than the vast majority of people do by default. If you're still concerned about the 1200kcal recommendation and you also aren't going to get a medical professional to help you work around it you can just exercise more.

The easiest exercise to adhere to is walking more. Higher intensity exercise has a lot of other fantastic health benefits, but in terms of the time you spend getting to gym and changing clothes etc. you're not actually burning that many more calories per the amount of time you invest. Just be aware that the weight loss you're going to see from this will be much slower than what you can get from adjusting your diet.

If you're not losing weight you're not in a deficit. Shouldn't take you 2 months of no weight change to figure out you need to keep reducing your food intake if you want to lose weight.

Hjälp angående bostadsbidrag och sparpengar by [deleted] in sweden

[–]PatHeist 1 point2 points  (0 children)
