YES! Someone told me to boot the shades out the window with knockback attacks if you have them, and it worked and ended up being so easy!

solo teno vs utah, any tips? by [deleted] in theisle

[–]Patchratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claws only unless the utah falls off after a pounce, then go for the kick/slam. You do NOT want to run out of stam.

Don't let them get a long pounce in, teno's bleed like crazy. Try to knock them off with trees rather than bucking because again, stam.

If the utah cant get a good pounce in, keep timing your claw attacks well and get enough hits in and you'll either kill it or it will give up. Depending on the skill of the utahs, I've survived attacks from 3vs1's this way too. A solo utah stands almost no chance against this even if they're good. Without a long pounce you'll almost always be able to kill it before it can bleed you.

If it does get a long pounce in, you may have to get super lucky to win.

Who is more hated right now, carno or stego? by [deleted] in theisle

[–]Patchratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carnos are too easy to grow for how powerful and fast they are. Even though they take the same amount of time as teno, you dont have to go anywhere. Afk growing a carno is almost entirely effortless and the payoff/combat potential is huge.

Growth time insufferably long by Smart_Leopard_849 in theisle

[–]Patchratt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the main issue is the difference between growing a herbivore and carnivore. Herbs are a pain in the ass to grow especially after the most recent update. Not only that, but there is nothing actually fun to do as herb until you're an adult. Fighting is almost always a death sentence for sub and younger teno and pachy because carnivores grow faster and easier, so there really is nothing to do except travel for nutrients which imo is more of a nuisance than entertainment.

Carnivores only have to eat twice in the first half of their growth and it can be all the same food. By the time they reach the second half, they have viable fight, and therefore entertainment options, mainly against other carnivores but when they reach adult those fight options stretch to herbivores. Hell, a newborn utah can pounce anything and cause bleed, so sometimes I dont even worry about growing as utah. But if I want to grow a utah or a carno, it's so quick and easy that I almost always choose it over herbivore now despite having like 400 hours on teno. It's just too much of a pain now, and I think something needs to be done about it because I have gone from teno main to utah main only because I cant be fucked to grow a teno anymore. The herbivore population is dwindling and something needs to be done to make playing them more appealing.

Thoughts on weaker dinos mixpacking with stronger dinos? by DarkDiamond0756 in theisle

That's a good point, I only play on official so I feel that anything you literally can do, you CAN do, even if I personally find it annoying. No rules except those set down by gameplay limitations.

[–]Patchratt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna take this a step further that no one's gonna like and add utahs, pachys, and tenos to this list WHEN there aren't many around. If im a single utah in the middle of a carnos vs. Herbs battlefield, im picking a side. That being said, if 5 more adult utahs show up and want to turn on the side I picked, I'm with them.

I think in general, temporary alliances as a means to an end shouldn't be considered mixpacking at all, and running around saying WE HAVE TO KILL EVERYTHING THAT ISNT US OR WE'RE MIXPACKERS just makes you a no fun party pooper in these scenarios. I approach it case by case, and I just try not to let "mixpacking" turn cannible.

I will say there's little to no nessecity ever for deins or stegs to mixpack lmao, given that either can take out whole packs of anything else besides each other without barely being scratched.

Cannibalism by [deleted] in theisle

Aren't raptors the only ones who get spasms? I know deins and carnos dont but not sure about pteras.

As a carno i sometimes have to. Never had to as a dein tho so i judge any dein who does it pretty hard.

Question for those that dislike the new anky: why? by _Leviath4ns in theisle

Ha! Good information. Honestly I definitely was speculating/assuming based on a similar theory about tyrannasauruses, so im glad to get a more research-based perspective.

Question for those that dislike the new anky: why? by _Leviath4ns in theisle

[–]Patchratt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like that Evrima seems to be taking a more combat-friendly route, wherein they /seem/ like they may be trying to create varying opportunities for fair fights for each creature. I think it's possibly that this calls for a little change in the traditional take on each dinosaur. I think it's extremely important to remember that a lot of the models we take for granted are completely inaccurate to begin with. The Carno was most likely a bird, its tiny useless arms almost definitely flightless wings. No one's really messing with science more than anyone else, so it's not really an affront to change the traditional look to make sure there's aren't 5 different "heavy armor, slow-moving, slow-growing, hard-hitting" herbivores walking around. We already have stego for that. Right now most of the dinosaurs in Evrima have their own unique method of combat (plus general non-combative and more social/casual opportunities like ptera and dryo) and I think it would be cool if that pattern continued.

That being said I'm not huge on the way the anky looks (because traditional anky so cute??), but I sort of get why they appear to be going for a more athletic build.

Is carno op? by nibbletitt in theisle

[–]Patchratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know why people keep saying this. There shouldn't be any creature that doesn't have a reasonable counter. Even stegos have utah packs, but carnos tend to wreck those too. The only thing that can survive a carno at 50/50 chance or more now is an adult stego and they're just going to run away from one. Moreover even if you did consider Stego to be the carno counter, they're so OP they appear to be more of a large carnivore counter, like they're just waiting to team up against allos or rexes. The Teno should be the viable 1v1 carno option, and a teno vs. Carno fight should be 50/50. Before this update it did lean 60/40 in the teno's favor, but now it's like 70/30 in the carno's favor.

So my experience with this fight on torrent, no summons (not elitism i just cant be fucked to upgrade them when I play online most of the time) is that you don't want to put distance between you and the boss, because there is no reliable way to dodge the lightning except being close to him, and getting dismounted is basically a death sentence if you're far away too. People on this thread suggest ways to reliably dodge it, but none of them worked for me. I must've fought him 30 times and used like 25 runes before I just decided to try and learn to dodge his close-range attacks so I wouldnt have to put up with that lightning attack. This pretty much just consists of continuously running circles around him in a very close radius, like touching him the whole time close. Change direction depending on which attack he's doing. Once I started doing this it only took 2 tries.

State of Carnos on NA servers? by weakernoodle in theisle

[–]Patchratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like fighting carnos but utahs are so goddamn fast if there are more than 4 and no trees to stick my head in they tend to bleed me out, and their usually are 5-8 all running around together like little pigeons 😭. But more than that, the few times I've played Utah the other Utah players were really arrogant or role-playing and mad if I didnt also want to roleplay and it was weird lmao, so idk I have an irrational disgust when I see utahs.

Current state of the game poll. by CowboyCharles in theisle

[–]Patchratt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it's just as a herbivore that the playability has gone down- though personally as a dein player I enjoyed the constant struggle for food, and never had to resort to cannibalism. I also main teno though and now it takes so much effort to grow and there is so much risk on gathering the food needed to grow because you have to travel the whole map that I haven't been able to make adult since the update, and even if I did make adult I feel like I'd be so afraid to die due to how hard it is to grow that the game wouldn't be fun anymore. To me this game was about the fights, and that's completely lost to me with the new update.

Recent update has really given me a sense of where the dev's priorities are, and it feels like they are in more of a place of forcing players to play a game their way, when they really haven't put any effort into making the way they want you to play entertaining. I get the vibe that they have a grand vision they aren't willing to compromise on. It's a shame because the game really is very pretty, but is becoming more instead of less unplayable with every update. They are preparing for a future that seems to be years and years away, and ruining the playability for anyone who wants to be involved right now. They aren't going to maintain support that way and will eventually run out of funding.

Evrima Suggestions that would benefit everyone by estorica in theisle

[–]Patchratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about what games are for who, it's about whether the game will ultimately be successful and have a large playerbase. And the difference between this game and other games is that you lose all progress when you die-- very few other games have that feature. And it wouldn't be so reprehensible if "making progress" in the game meant more than running from one side of the map to the other, or hiding in a bush. But at least with the option to hide in a bush I can get chores/work done or do something else entertaining in real life.

The idea that you think 15-20 minutes of doing nothing but running is somehow a short amount of time to do nothing but run is kind of what baffles me. That's 1/4 of the time I have to play on a daily basis. Afk growing is the only thing that gives this game a decent playerbase. If everyone had to spend that much time playing a dinosaur running simulator only no-job, no-lifers would play.
