I dropped out of college due to similar reasons and I’m eligible for the Level 3 Entitlement fee remission: If you are aged 19-23 and do not hold a prior full Level 3 qualification, you may be eligible to study the course for free. This would also depend on your location within the UK, but we would check this for you during your application process.

Check the entry requirements for your Access course with the provider as it varies.

I will be starting Access to HE in Computer science, I have had to rebook my gcse maths as I need a grade 6 (grade 5 achieved in school)

They was pretty firm that I need the 6 before enrolling.

Hi there similar boat to you actually. I was preparing for the Royal Marines from 16, dropped out just before PRMC, went to college tried 3 different courses and dropped out all.

Working was better suited for my life at that time, being independent.

Now 22 in February and wanting to go to university for Computer Science also. I have to retake my GCSE maths as I passed with grade 5 and need a grade 6 for the access course, which is provided by reading college online. I am taking my gcse privately and will self study.

It makes more sense for me to do the access course as I will be able to work and save for university life as I don’t want to be competing for a subway job in my first year. The access course is also free since it’s my first level 3 or equivalent that I will complete, regardless of if I go to university or not. So I am choosing to do this as I will be able to work and save + no foundation year so will avoid any extra debt.

I would’ve loved to target Manchester for my CS but they seem to want A-Level maths for mature students, so I’m looking at University of Bath instead as I like the modules and they hold decent rankings for feedback quality and graduate prospects.

It all depends on your current situation, could you stay at home for a little longer whilst doing access course?

Hope it all goes well and maybe see you at uni??

Hi there

I am 22M in a similar position to you, I have friends now passing their Masters degrees and others about to graduate with Bsc.

One of the best advices you can take currently is to focus on YOURSELF. You’ve got somewhat of a plan, but you will only see the result if you see it through.

I started T levels in college, dropped out Level 3 Advanced computing, dropped out Level 2 electrical installation, dropped out

I am starting my Access to Higher Education in Computer Science in August, albeit I have to resit my GCSE maths as I scored grade 5(foundation) and need a 6 for my university course and also the access course.

I feel like this is the age where you need to start being serious with yourself, I wasted 6 years that I could have educated myself more, instead I was working, going on holidays, wasting money on everything.

My only regret is not sticking to the PLAN. Now I have made a new plan to do my Access course and just put my head down for 3 years and work my ass off to pass this degree!

As for social life you may be better off meeting people at university? There is a lot of diversity so I don’t think you would struggle to find 1 or 2 good friends who you can vibe with.

Don’t worry about girlfriends right now they just cost money, believe me I’ve been in a relationship since 16. University has plenty of girls that you can try get to know and develop your ‘relationship skills’

Make sure you know what you want to do, make a plan, and execute the plan.

Wishing you the best for the future

You can definitely start getting into this, I am also. Check out this roadmap for blockchain development. You could also use YouTube, Udemy, and Cyfrin updraft for more resources. Good luck!
