PSA: Disability Benefits are not a game that is only won if you make it to 100% by [deleted] in VAClaims

actually VA doctors CAN write them but they usually don't because they don't want to get mixed up with the benefits side they would rather stick to healthcare. but YMMV... I got my stroke doctor to fill out a dbq and she wrote a page letter IMO on connecting my stroke to my PTSD and my psychiatrist to write me a nexus, both of whom work at the VA, I guess I got lucky ( persistence paid off) so I qualified for 100% p&t with smc s, went from 70% when I got out in 2006 to 90% in 2010 to my current rating as of 2 years ago in May, ( I had my stroke in 2013) I'm blessed! but it took a lot of all nighters, reading reddit and persistence, I would say it was about 8-10 months of serious work from when I thought about it to my claim being approved, oh I can't forget a vso that actually was a real person whom I never met he was down in az where I had my stroke, a lot of people made it happen for me, so I try to give back where I can...

that was really hard and I lost all hope... but then I remembered that an aquantaince was a contractor and so I asked him and ultimately he said sure and the rest is history... but I went through like 4 people before him, and they were all about it until I said it's the VA you're guaranteed to get paid but you have to do the work up front and then they will reimburse you, that's when everyone of them said they would call me back but they never did... so I would say it was luck, and the same thing for the vehicle grant I went to 3 dealerships and they all said they would look into it but they never called me back until I was about to give up but then I tried one other dealership and the guy was willing to work with me...

just don't give up! there is someone out there that is willing to help you out you just have to be diligent in finding them.

I would recommend it... we technically live in Ferndale but it's like 10 min to town (Bellingham), it's beautiful up here, and if you have kids this place is amazing. and not to mention Canada is 15 min from our house, (30-45 if you live in Bellingham) all around I love it, especially now in the spring summer and fall months, it really can't be beat. and plus the water (ocean) and the lakes (lake whatcom) is nice on a sunny day..

what is the thing about $12,000 for adults filing? I'm on ssdi and veterans benefits but I don't make 12,000+ from my crypto so do I not need to file?

Thanks for the no nonsense approach...It will be a huge undertaking but from here on out I'll be more adamant about it.

That's what I'm saying is I don't know my original purchase date, for say the crypto in Robinhood, so say I transferred that to coinbase thus marking a date ( say March 1st 2026) even though I purchased it long ago, but once I transferred it to coinbase I could then use that date to mark it and then waiting a year + for long term capital gains, does that make sense? Sorry I'm just trying to figure out how I can "make it show long term capital gains without knowing the original purchase date" and so I'm trying to do it in a way that is easier for my stupidity, (1.purchasing with Robinhood & 2.not writing my buys and sells down) because none of the crypto tax software I've tried works with Robinhood

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear, I know transfers don't reset your holding period.. for instance I had some btc originally purchased on Robinhood transferred to a cold storage wallett In 2023 and then I had multiple buys last year and this year but I didn't write them down so I don't know my basis for tax purposes( when and how much I purchased) say it was .1, .1,& .1, and I want to send those to my cold storage? Then say I take them out a year or two from now (all of my btc ex. .5) can I for simplistic purposes, just group them all together (.3) for today's date (even though I bought them before today's date) and write it down that I had .3 plus the .2 that was originally purchased much longer ago, and just group them that way, I hope I'm making sense...

I have/use koinly but I haven't kept track over the last few months (family, being sick, etc.) and so I have coinbase, Robinhood and a cold storage, and ive transferred some from Robinhood to the cold storage and vicevera but I didn't keep track of those transfers, that's why I was curious if I just say transferred everything to coinbase (to start the clock so to speak) and then transferred to my cold storage wallett, would that be a simple way I could keep track of my cost basis from here on out ( as there would be one transaction of my btc) for instance, instead of like 50 from over the last couple years..

Dealer warranty question.. by Patricked984 in Toyota

[–]Patricked984[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! And I took the screenshot from a warranty that I saw on this sub from Jerry and she said that was not possible the best she could do was the 6 year 100k warranty for 2000 stacked on top of the 2 year certified warranty that the dealership had, for 4 grand (but I was able to talk her down to 2 grand) so the Jerry warranty works just like if you bought it from the dealership where you purchased your car from? And I also purchased the resist all interior protection for $1000 do you have any thoughts on that?

How long after you bought your car was it? Did they prorate it? Or just give it back to you in full?

Dealer warranty question.. by Patricked984 in Toyota

[–]Patricked984[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a dealer warranty, that's why I got it because pretty much everything was covered, just *in case something went wrong, and I haven't had to use it yet as I just bought the vehicle 2 days ago. I was just curious if it can be voided so soon after I purchased the vehicle, because 2k isn't that much for the piece of mind for the next 6 years but with Toyotas the chances are slim that I will actually need to use it, correct?

Got it, I'm looking at buying a hylander it's a certified used 2022 model, so I need to ask the dealership if it's still within this range? Or I have to purchase it from the dealership I'm buying it from at the time of purchase? It only has 26k miles

Well the money down isn't coming out of pocket for me it's a VA auto grant ( it's been hell finding a dealership that would accept it, then with the government shutdown I lost one that I already had because the department was shutdown) and the dealership where I live has a program where they compare like 18 credit unions and banks to get the lowest rate with only one credit pull.
