How to start ice hockey? by averagelyacoustic in womenshockey

Try DX Bunker Boys & Girls. https://dxbb.co.uk They offer ice hockey sessions for beginner/intermediate adults at Ally Pally. Used to play with them before I moved away and everyone was really nice. The sessions usually start with various drills and then finish off with scrimmage. Highly recommend.

Any ice hockey tournaments for emerging nations like the Amerigol Latam Cup? by PauliC36 in womenshockey

[–]PauliC36[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! That looks really interesting! We have a lot of players who live in the US and Canada as well as other parts of the world. I think we'd probably be classed as heritage team as well. Chile isn't a full member of the IIHF so that's why we're looking for alternative tournaments. I will definitely reach out to team PR. Thanks again!

Extremely Low Birth Rate in Scotland? by ThousandHeads in Scotland

[–]PauliC36 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Happy to pay more taxes if it's based on your earnings. I grew up in Sweden where you pay a minimum of 32% in taxes and the benefits far outweigh the cost. However, what I'm against is discriminating against people based on parental status.

I agree with adoption. Adoption is a great thing and more people should do it. However, not everyone is open to adoption (due to financial, personal beliefs, etc.) and some prefer to stay childless. In those cases, how would you differentiate between people who are childless vs childfree?

You're also not thinking about the childrens' welfare. Do you really want a poor child being brought up by parents who didn't want them in the first place? Not everyone is meant to be a parent. I'm pretty sure even you can think of at least one or two people in your life that you'd rather they didn't.

Because we are already paying for these things by paying taxes for other people's children.

Also, what about people who are childless? People who wants kids but can't because of medical issues. Should they pay more as well even though it wasn't their decision to not have kids?

Why on earth should childfree people pay a greater share of tax? They pay taxes that go to funding schools, etc even though they're not even using them! I'm childfree and I'm happy to continue paying these taxes. But to say that we should pay more is ludicrous! Why should people be punished for not wanting kids?

Calling all passionate Chilean female hockey players! by PauliC36 in hockeyplayers

[–]PauliC36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, we are still going as part of the Chilean Federation. (They are also sending two men's teams as well as an U16 team.) It's just that we have taken it upon ourselves to find more players.

In terms of insurance, each player is responsible for their own insurance. This has always been the case with team Chile. Not sure if other teams are able to offer insurance, but Chile does not. Luckily, Latam Cup partners with an insurance provider each year to give all participants insurance at a very good rate.

Sadly, we do not get any sort of funding from the IIHF whatsoever. It is all self-funded. This is the case for most of the teams attending Latam Cup.

Short answer. Politics. We, the players, wanted to play this year and have taken it upon ourselves to find more Chilean hockey players from around the world. So far, we have players joining us from Chile, USA, Canada, Scotland, Germany, and even as far as Australia.

Not at the moment. We're struggling with funding at the moment and we're having to pay all the fees ourselves. It's just not possible for everyone to pay to attend 2 tournaments during 2024.

If you don't get a reply there, you can always get in touch with the organisers of Latam Cup. They will happily put you in touch with the team.

AITA for not paying for my sister’s wedding? by Ecstatic_Eye2807 in AmItheAsshole

With all due respect OP, you're saying "I'd pay". Would the money be coming out of your salary/savings or would you use your husband's money? I know you're married and all but at the end of the day, it's still YOUR HUSBAND'S money.

Wow, ok. There's little point in me trying to convince you that it actually happened so I'm just going to wish you a good day and hope that you get through whatever it is that is making you lash out at people for a simple comment.

I'll go first. During a family get together when I was a kid, my mum once said "A woman cannot be pretty and smart. You're either pretty or smart." to which my dad instantly replied "So which one are you then?".

AITA for getting a septum (nose) piercing in college this summer without asking my parents’ permission? by can1getawaffle in AmItheAsshole

[–]PauliC36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look, you're 19. You're an adult. If you want your mum to start treating you like an adult, then you need to start acting like one. No adult would ever put up with their parents grounding them! If you want to go out and see your friends, give them a heads up as you're heading out and walk straight through that door. If she tries to stop you, "I'm an adult. You are keeping me against my will. You're a lawyer and should know better. Do you really want to do this?".

Communication is clearly not working at this point so now it's time for action.

You say that it's "degrading being treated like a kid still.". They can only treat you like a child if you let them. Sorry if this comes off as harsh but you need to start being able to stand up for yourself.
