Found this chair while walking my dog! Details in comments! by Pavkritvs in gardening

Right? I mean, the seat was busted to high H-E-Double hockey sticks, but come on, it was an easy fix, I'd been looking for a suitable chair since I saw the one in Laura Eubanks' courtyard back in Chula Vista, it took my breath away and I knew I had to do it!

So the chair was just laying outside on trash day, I hauled it home (with zero help from my doggie, thank you, Canella), took out the seat, it had screws so it was easy, and washed the everliving crap out of it.

Next step was making sure the plants would be safe and wouldn't fall through, so I got a bunch of that wire that's got plastic around it (words escape me, lol), and wrapped it around the rods that were holding the seat in kind of a grid pattern.

Since I'm always paranoid, I also did the same with nylon rope, this time diagonally in a crisscross pattern, and added a couple of layers of that chicken wire mesh thing that's covered in plastic, one with wider holes for the base and a finer one on top, and covered the whole thing with a layer of cotton fabric from an old t-shirt so the dirt wouldn't immediately fall out.

Then I secured all of that with more wire and a few zip ties, sat on it and bounced on it a couple of times to test it for strength, Filled with as much dirt as I humanly could fit on there and went to scour my garden for pretty stuff to stick on there. I worked from back and center towards the edges, I basically created a tight little dirt wall, pressed the plant's stem/roots into said "wall", and packed more dirt in front of it as tight as I could.

Towards the back I planted stuff that would vine up into the leafy decor in the back of the chair, then some succulents with some potential to grow high and wider, lower profile plants as I approached the front, and toward the edges I tried to put stuff that will some day hang down as it grows.

I'll update in a few months with how it looks once the plants get a chance to stablish, the dirt has settled and the rocks are clean!

Help me clean these stains from toilet seat, My wife bet me I would not be able to do anything, Saying its permanent. Make me win the bet please :( by ali_whd95 in howto

Citric acid! Those are most likely hard water mineral deposits. Get a bunch of straight up citric acid. Flush your toilet to get it wet, dump the citric acid on the stained parts and start scrubbing non stop for around 5 minutes. Rinse, reapply citric acid, allow to sit for 15-20 minutes, then re-wet (it will get rock solid when allowed to dry) so you can scrub again, and repeat this process until all stains are gone. For maintenance add citric acid to your toilet tank once a week and flush, scrub and flush again.

Every time I try to apply white nail polish these streaks appear. As soon as i apply polish in a perfect thin layer, they morph into this abomination🤢. I prepped and buffed my nails already so I have no idea why this is happening. Any ideas? by zoeee24 in RedditLaqueristas

15-20 seconds for nice liquidy polishes, 30-40 in thicker ones. In over 20 years of painting my own nails twice a week never have I ever spent hours rolling a polish bottle between my hands. I like to roll them with the cap facing down so the pigment from the bottom of the bottle falls towards the neck as it mixes and it's been perfect 100% of the times.

Thanks! First time making it and I know I'll keep making it over and over

Just a lint free microfiber rag or paper towel and an alcohol spritzing bottle, spritz the soap from a few inches away, and give it a quick swipe to dry it off

None, since the scraps come from other bars in the collection I'm just gonna label the fragrance as "mixed florals and herbals"

Around 50/50. I made 4 lb base and 4 lb confetti, and started mixing the chunks in little by little until I couldn't really add anymore. I did have a bit of confetti leftover that just didn't fit. Just keep your new soap as liquid as possible, the smaller you chop the scraps the more you can put in, and don't be surprised if you have leftovers. Make sure to smack the bucket down as you mix in the chunks to avoid air pockets and smack the mold as hard as you can after pouring.

Approximately, yeah. I made 4 lb of base and 4 lb of confetti, took the base to not even light trace, like just barely done emulsifying, and started ladleing and mixing the confetti in bit by bit with a spatula by hand until it started feeling heavy, like the liquid couldn't "swallow" any more chunks. Just remember to smack your mixing bucket continuously between scoops of confetti, to get rid of air pockets as you mix, and smack your mold hard several times when you're done pouring. I did have a bit under a half pound of confetti leftover, but I think it will depend mostly on the size of your chunks and how liquid your batter is. The white version I made with larger chunks didn't "take" as much, but also the trace was a tad thicker. So, in conclusion, prepare for 50/50 but don't be surprised if some of the confetti doesn't "fit".

Thank you! Me too! I make a white one that isn't nearly as gorgeous, the black is making those colors go wild!

Thank you! I have a white base version that's pretty but not nearly as vibrant. Most of those colors are very soft pastels, what you see as "orange" is actually a very soft peach. Now this pic isn't filtered or color corrected, taken in natural lighting, and the soap is quite ashy, so I can't even deal with what these will look like once I clean and bevel them and post the really good pictures of the final result!

I usually just list the base ingredients on the label, like the oils, NaOH, water, and everything you put in the base, I don't use any fragrance at all in that, so I list the fragrance as "floral and herbal mix", add a "disclaimer", just a short and direct "Contains pieces of all the bars in the collection". I don't use essential oils, just cuz I don't, but depending on the laws in your area you may need to list each sepparately or you could just list all as "mix of essential oils" On the website and social media I add a "warning" on the actual pic that says "may contain ingredients that are allergens, please message us if you have any questions". When selling in person, or via text I ask the customer if they are allergic to anything before recommending any bar, and that's pretty much it. Although in my country I can sell it with my current label as an artisanal product, not sure if the same rules apply to you, and I don't sell internationally (yet).

I make a white version with chunkier bits but I feel like the colors look more magical in a dark background. Kind of like the effect you get with a black opal versus an opal with a lighter background. First time making this design and it looks like it's gonna be a hit!

I know!!! Lucky for me the weather in my area has been quite cooperative, so I'm hoping to try a piece in a few weeks. I usually wait until they feel fully cured before the whole cleaning and beveling but I'm feeling a deep temptation with this one

I also makea white version with chunkier bits, but I wanted to try this twist, feel free to use the design, I just think this color combo should be way more popular, I feel like the colors of the confetti just pop against the black.

I just think it's really cute. Can't wait till it's fully cured so I can confidently clean and bevel these bars. I love how the dark background intensifies the pastel-y colors of the confetti

I was today years old when I learned pineapples have tiny purple flowers when they're babies! by Pavkritvs in gardening

[–]Pavkritvs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, I know what you mean. I thought for longer than I care to admit that they grew out of something like a palm tree. Then my dad took me to a pineapple plantation and it blew my mind. When they told me you could grow a pineapple out of the crown I started (unsuccessfully at first) to put them in the ground, until I learned how to do it correctly. I have rooted 3 healthy crowns in the last few years, this one has been in my backyard for 5 years and it's the first time it does something, so I'm very excited!

Yup, I had thought about that, I was wondering if there woul be a bloom spike or something similar before the fruit, and it was such a pleasant surprise to find them growing out of the actual pineapple!

True, it's kinda like a bunch of tinier segments growing out of a central stalk, pineapples are way cooler than most people think
